Imbued with the power of at least 3 small children, Captain Cascader used to be a great hero. However, his recent binge drinking and enourmous appetite have almost knocked him out of the super-hero racket. He's recently returned to keep tabs over his arch enemy Red L.A.M.P.Cpt. Cascader's powers are mostly defensive in nature. He has the rare ability to create force fields around items as a means of containing them. These fields, often in the form of pastel boxes, can be nested within themselves so that even the most intelligent of enemies will get lost in Cascader's maze of confusion.

Ok guys and gals, we just launched a never-ending (well sorta) trivia app on comicvine. Basically you can now test your comic trivia knowledge and compete against other users to make it to the top of the leader-board. Users are submitted by the community and feel free to submit as many as you want. We launched this same feature on Giant Bomb (our sister site) over the weekend and they are already up to 2000 questions. I think we can beat them.
The questions show up on the homepage and the individual character/team pages. There are also leaderboards that are specific to that character and team, which I'll be pushing soon so you can flaunt your knowledge of Jean Grey or Wolverine.

If you notice a question that is either poorly-written or out of place you can vote that question down. If it gets enough people doing the same, the question gets deleted.

Anyways, have fun and please keep the trivia specific to comics, as opposed to RPGs, site knowledge.

New feature on comic vine. You can now have your blog also create a message board topic in the board of your choosing. This is optional and can be turned off by going to your message board preferences popup. Essentially we saw people writing awesome blogs that not a lot of people were seeing and wanted to give you guys an optional ability to get it out to more people.

If you attach your blog to the forums any replies you get there will show up on your blog and vice versa. If you have any questions, give a shout.

Earlier today I checked out Hellboy 2 and as guessed, was very impressed with it. I've always been a fan of practical effects movies where costumes, makeup and duct tape are more common then CGI so Del Toro has always had a soft spot in my heart. After 2 films he's created an original visual experience that I can only compare to the original Star Wars trilogy or Blade Runner. This is a world you can feel. I think G-Man's post hit it when he mentioned the shared memory of the Mos Eisley Cantina. Hellboy is filled with weird, believable stuff.

And then there's Johan Kraus. Voiced by Seth McFarlane of Family Guy fame, it is quite simply the greatest comic to film performance I've seen since Christopher Reeve. He NAILED it. If you thought Ron Perlman was Hellboy, you don't know what you're getting into when Krauss appears. His character's addition to the Hellboy movies is game changing. I'm so excited for the next one.

Now that it's been officially announced, I figured I'd drop in to say our team is currently building giantbomb.com for Jeff Gerstmann and crew. I've been buds with Jeff, Ryan, Brad and Vinny for years so I'm pretty pumped to build a site out for them. The site will essentially be Comic Vine for videogames. We'll be launching in 2 weeks, which all said, is 6 weeks since we relaunched comicvine. Both are built off the same platform, so as we build features for one, the other benifits. Same goes for bugfixing.

They've got a simple blog running now, so if you're into games feel free to check it out. I'll put up a big announcement when we launch.

I loved unbreakable. To this day I consider it the second best comic book movie ever made (the best being the original superman flick). I know it's a little slow for some people but I thought it did a really good job of telling an origin story in a non-fantastical way. Comic movies too often deal with the instant joy of finding out you have powers and unbreakable really broke the mold by spending an entire movie just dealing with the issue of denial.

So yes, I'm very interested in original, for screen only comic book movies. However, I have pretty much zero-faith in the upcoming Hancock movie. Nothing against Will Smith, but it looks horrible. I'm very worried about the saturation of the comic market in films right now and worry that exploiting the genre might lead to less and less quality films being released. If Hancock duds, which I'm guessing it likely won't, I could see a fallout in interest for comic movies over the next couple years.

Here's a NON-SPOILER trailer for unbreakable if you haven't yet seen it. This is my favorite trailer of all-time. It gets you interested, but tells you nothing about the movie.

Seriously, I don't get the hate on DK2. Look I loved Dark Knight Returns as much as anyone but to hate DK2 just because of its sequel status is idiotic. It's got a lot going for it.

One of the major things I love about the series it Batman's fight with Superman. Miller paints Superman as the ultimate boy scout, a man concerned not so much with justice, but the rule set it's built upon. In contrast, Bruce cares not for society, but his own brand of personal justice, writing wrongs the same way he has for year, but with a vengeance that speaks closer to a bitter old soul.

So why hate DK2? Personally I don't get it. The appearance of Supergirl, in some of the best panels in comics, as well as the sacrifice of Shazam! are some of the coolest cameos I know of in comics. I've never got Shazam, I likely never will, but his... moment in DK2 is one of the most powerful panels I've ever read in comics. Just brilliant stuff.

And then there is the artwork. Crazy and stylized and just a mess. It speaks more for the anger and disillusionment of the protagonist then for a planned style. We've got chaos here, we're got Batman thinking in his most primal of states, not a man, not a bat, just a dude pissed off and trying to make things right.

Great, great stuff. DK2 may not be as good as its predecessor, but this is some heady stuff, worthy of praise.

Ok, so maybe I'll get flack for this, but Elektra Assassin is my favorite comic series of all time. Sure it's outside the conical Elektra stories and I'm sure a lot of Frank Miller haters despise it for that, but it's purely on the whole, the greatest comic series I've ever read.

Why?

Sienkiewicz for one. His art is... well it's Sienkiewicz. No one matched his style back then, and no one even bothers to imitate it now. This is coming from a guy who loves the Miller style and loves Miller's Daredevil. Sienkiewicz changed my world. The way he draws/paints took it out of the medium and made it pure art. He's the only guy that could compliment Miller's wordy prose. His Elektra, and the environment she lives in, is one of chaos and misdirection. The story and the art are pure emotion, nothing less.

I'll be honest, I've read this series at least five times now and have no idea what's going on. What I can tell you is that Elektra is the most bad ass super heroine/villain in comics and the only reason I believe that is because of this book. She's not just an assassin, she's the ghost in your closet this series. Plus she exudes sex. Not in the usual big boobs comic way, but in the I'm a naughty girl and you're gonna like it way. Outside of the New Jersey turnpike stylings of Sienkiewicz's depiction Elektra is all allure.

This is my favorite comic series of all time. It's one of the reasons I adore the medium and is just one of the reasons I love Frank Miller.

I've got a secret to tell. I've never liked Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The TV show just never did it for me and although I've later come to adore Whedon penned comics and the TV show Firefly, the cute high school vampire slayer just didn't do it for me. However, somehow I really like Fray. Maybe it's the artwork by Moline and Stewart, or maybe it's just that it's set in the future. Either way I really enjoyed these books, despite the short run. If you've ever thought of picking it up but were scared off by it's pedigree I'd give it a shot. It has some awesome panels and a fairly decent, though obviously not original storyline.
