He is by far a favorite of comicbooks readers the world over. His name is renowned and he is and always will be considered one of the best; Michael Turner. Having
fought cancer twice, and then ultimately passing away as a result of having been diagnosed last summer, he will always be remembered as one of the greatest illustrators in the industry. He premiered some of his best work under Top Cow as the penciler for Witchblade, and then in 1998 he both wrote and illustrated "Fathom." In 2002 Turner was once again diagnosed with cancer, and beating the disease for a second time, he quickly established his own comicbook company, Aspen comics. Aspen lives on and strives, having become a successful publishing company in their own right, even after Turner's death. His name truly did pre-cede him, and both the big guns Marvel and D.C. valued Turner's work as he illustrated several covers for both companies.
It's truly a shame that with production already under way, Turner will never get to see one of his greatest life achievements, "Fathom," projected to the big screen.
So today, let's take a minute as fans of his work, to appreciate his accomplishments and successes and be thankful that we, as comicbook readers and fans, were able to share in his career.
Happy Birthday, Mike.
