  • Congorilla/Congo Bill has ties to many characters with ties to the Justice League.  Check out the now-defunct team, The Forgotten Heroes.

  • Okay...  1) What signifies a good idea to bring a character back?  2) What signifies a character as being important/popular enough to bring back?

  • But seriously, why should these characters come back?  Wouldn't it have greater affect if they stayed dead?  Death shouldn't be a gimmick.  Otherwise, you might as well write everyone as a Mary Sue because they can't die or won't stay dead, anyway.  I want something permanent.  You want to know why 2nd and 3rd tier characters don't evolve past those levels and layers?  Cause there's no room for them to ...

  • No, the Black Lanterns should stay dead.  DC should be the first company to really have dead mean dead.  Of course, I say should...if the Black Lantern-ized Heroes do come back, it should be after a good period of time.  Give readers the chance to how the League and the world around them fairs without certain characters.  But I personally would like them to stay six feet under ;)

  • It is an interesting mix, albeit a rather large cast.  I'd like to say the 4 outermost characters (Congorilla, Cyborg, Guardian, and Hal Jordan) won't be sticking around but we'll see.  I don't see why Congorilla is on the team, but I don't know much about him.  Others have said that Beast Boy would be a better pick.  Myself, I'd rather see Animal Man. ;)

  • ASKwhy replied to the topic Is Vril Dox going to be a Black Lantern? in the Vril Dox board.
@cennobite: I don't think even he can do anything against the Black Lanterns.  Thought and Emotion are usually at odds with each other anyway but, with the Black Lantern's weakness already stated in Blackest Night #3, I doubt Vril Dox will have anything to do with defeating the Black Lantern Corps.  Unless it involves gathering the different forms of light in one place.  Perhaps a certain cosmic divining rod that hasn't ...

  • @ryanwh: true.  This could be some type of interim team.  Or the Titans can truly be graduating/growing up and a new Titans team coming along.  This could be what some of these characters need to go up a grade from C-list to B-list or B-list to A-list.  How long has it been since the Justice League has had members other than the Trinity, et al?  Some fresh blood could do some ...

I'd like to see:

An animated Green Lantern...but with the maturity level of First Flight with the language and the death and sexual tension.  The special effects would be costly for live-action so keep it animated.  Course, I'd want it to be more faithful to the source material than the skewed First Flight, but that's me.

Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash have all had their spots in the light of primetime.  I can't help but think Martian Manhunter would have an 'Alien Nation'-type of vibe to it and Birds of Prey could have been better.  I gotta agree with those who want to see a live-action Doom Patrol series or movie!

OMG!  This was announced last month?  Where the hell was I?  I hope it happens.  They say AMC is looking to do it and it would be 110% faithful.  (Why not 115%? you ever wonder why everyone always says 110%?) Anyway, I hope it becomes a reality.  I frakkin' love 'The Walking Dead'!

AMC and Frank Darabont team up to bring 'The Walking Dead' to TV
Robert Kirkman on 'The Walking Dead' coming to TV

There's also an annotated Google Map giving the locations of everything that happens from issue 1-64.  I can tell you if you try to search for it on the web the links just take you to a blank map over Coffeyville, KS I believe.  So, if you're interested, go to Google Maps, place your screen in an area from Kentrucky and Tennessee to Georgia, search for Walking Dead, and it'll pull up the annotated listings.  I downloaded it to Google Earth and it's friggin' sweet!

(a fun little aside -- The one thing that gets me about "The Walking Dead" --- There was a snowstorm...in the Atlanta area...a snowstorm...like a blizzard?...in Atlanta....I live in Atlanta...snowstorms don't happen...at least often...now, if it were a bit north of Atlanta, I could understand...but a snowstorm...in Atlanta...**scratches head**...

Don't get me wrong.  Green Lantern: First Flight is a good movie.  It's fast-paced and action-packed and makes uses of a great deal of characters tied to the Green Lantern mythos.  However, for someone who is new to that mythos (myself included), it can be irritating to see a few of those characters acting in ways they normally would not.  We'll get back to that in a minute.

First, let me say that this is not an animated movie you should pick up from some discount department store and be thinking your kid would love it.  No.  This is an MA movie.  There's language and death usually not associated with kid's toons.  Be forewarned...unless you feel your kids have already been de-sensitized with such content in their daily viewing.  I was suprised and immediately though I wouldn't be letting any young viewers I know watch this.  Wait til it's dubbed on television to plop your kiddies in front of it.

Anyways, back to the creative licensure going one here.  There are people who side with Sinestro, there's numerous deaths of Lanterns who are still around in the titles.  We, the newbies to the Lantern world, are bound to be confusticated with this story.  Knowing what I know (and it's actually a lot for the few short months I've started reading the title), I was caught scratching my head and in a near drooling state as I tried to figure out just what the hell some of these characters were doing and why.  It was as if whoever decided to do this movie was going to do it their way and screw history with no way of turning it around.  Seriously, if a Green Lantern series was ever developed this movie would have to be completely ignored.  And that's not a good thing.

The next Lantern movie that comes along, I hope will be a little more faithful to the material.  Boodika, for instance, may be a biatch but she's not a double-crossing biatch.  The Guardians would never accede to anything...and certainly not to Sinestro.  And the power sources are not some giant crystals encased in battery housings.

But, again, it was a good movie.  It moved along at a swift enough pace to keep me from a scratching a hole in my head.  It even had me on the edge of my seat, cheering Jordan on and telling the rookie to get a move on it.  It was engaging, I'll give it that.  Again, It would have been better if it followed the material so those in the know could have their easter egg hunt, but it was good enough to be some form of welcome into the world of the Green Lantern.  I'd give it a B-.
