Real Life
When I was a kid, like all other children, I was fascinated by Superheroes. My first experience with Comic Book heroes was the movie, Batman Returns. From there I was hooked, with Batman quickly becoming my favorite character. It also didn't hurt that reruns of the old Adam West Batman series were coming on daily and the premiere of Batman: The Animated Series. I soon discovered X-Men, about when I was 6 or 7 and I thought Wolverine was a real badass. That was the first comic I bought when I was a kid. I lost it a long time ago but I remember pieces of it. I remember Archangel having a huge page spread with all of the X-Men standing behind him and Jubilee fighting a bunch of Sentinels at the end. I never really collected comics as a kid, I didn't know how to read the panels. But I did watch all of the cartoons religiously.
As I grew older I kind of lost touch with the Superheroes that I loved. That was until the first X-Men movie was released. As I sat there in the movie theaters I felt like I was a little kid all over again but it passed just as soon as the closing credits rolled. But the movies continued and I went to go and see all of them. When they released Batman Begins I knew that my love for superheroes hadn't died and I decided to get caught up with the story.
So I began collecting. At first I felt weird about going into a comic book shop. I thought to myself, "I'm 21 years old. I don't want people to think I'm weird for collecting comics at my age." But soon those thoughts faded and here I am. A 21 year old man who loves collecting comics and is not ashamed to admit it. Batman is still my favorite of course. Always has been.
