People tend to vouch for Sentry's speed, when there's never anything that implies or shows how fast he's going. Perfect example is the time Sentry flew to Saturn, and had a nervous breakdown.

For a making-friends issue this one was pretty good. I actually liked the stuff about Chimera, explaining who he is, how he's doing what he's doing and getting to see Jeroen again. The arrival of the villains should bring us some good fights.

    Deaths so far:
    Green Arrow (killed by Midnighter)
    Element Lad (killed by Hellstrike)
    Sun Boy (killed by Fahrenheit)
    Dr. Fate (killed by Grifter)
    Batman (killed by Zealot)

My Super Life

Courtesy of Gambler

Most of Buckshot's early history has been classified. What is known, is that he was part of an elite mercenary squad, codenamed: Silver 9. A master tactician and strategist, he was handed control of Silver 9 when he was merely a child. The unit was more than just a team, they where family. But after uncovering a sinister secret about their benefactors, Darre Enterprises, Buckshot was cut loose. It's a term referred to as a "Burn Notice", he was cut off from everything and everyone he knew, his team was now ordered to put him down.

But before they could, Buckshot disappeared. He was now completely of the grid, and as members of Silver 9 and Darre Enterprises began to come up missing, it quickly became clear who was hunting who.

This post relates to: What's the first comic you remember buying?

Daughter of Raktavashi

It was Conan. Took a second (and some help from Google) to remember the exact name, but it was Savage Sword of Conan #234, The Daughter of Raktavashi / Family Skeletons. It's in pieces now (cover's gone and a few end pages are missing) but I still have it.

This post relates to: Do you listen to (or watch) any podcasts? If so, which ones? If not, why not?

I used to listen to a lot but now, not so much. I listen to a few comic podcasts, IFanboy (they've mentioned Comicvine), About Heroes and Tom VS The JLA. I'm subscribed to a few audiobook podcasts, the best of which is probably Scott Sigler's (google his name for more info). Forget what it's called and I'm not checking, might be Bloodcast. I'm currently listening his book, Nocturnal, which is a excellent piece of scifi/horror fiction so check it (and his older stuff) out if you like that stuff. I've recently started listening to that Giantbomb thing. I'd link all these so you could possibly check them out, but I'm lazy.

This post relates to: Professor X, Jack Hawksmoor, Whose powers would you want to have?

The King
I want time control more than anything but I don't know of any character that has it exactly the way I think of it so I'm out of luck there.

My first thought after that is Jack Hawksmoor (second time I've picked him in 3 weeks). I'd love to be connected the way Jack is, just plugged in to all the life around him, human and otherwise. Plus, jumping and controlling gravity like Jack does would be fun. Control over the city might as well be telekinesis (I wouldn't pick TK, but it'd be fun now and then) and there's just so many possibilities with Jack's powers that I feel I could really get creative. Being practically indestructable when in a city and incredibly strong wouldn't suck either.  And imagine all the information available if you could tap into everything a city knew.

I thought about picking someone with telekinesis but I'm not sure how much I'd like that. It would be sort of practical but I see myself doing a lot of fighting with it, blasting stuff and making shields, but I don't think I'd be doing that much. If I lived in a comic book universe where fighting was a part of my everyday life then telekinesis would probably be my pick (and I'd say someone with Summers/Grey blood), but in reality, probably not.

The Professor
My second choice would probably be Xavier. (I might use my powers more like Emma Frost, but I'd want Xavier's since he's commonly considered the best psychic on Earth.) His powers seem more practical in the real world, and they wouldn't draw any attention. Having access to or controlling the minds of others would be even more useful than things that work on a physical level.

In this day and age though, virtual power might be just as important, maybe even more so. In that case, any of the many technopaths would be a good pick. With all the information going through the giant tubes of the internet at my beck and call, I could run the world from my living room. I might pick someone with other powers though, like Iron Man or The Engineer, just in case.

The Doctor
Don't think think I'd go bad or anything. That talk of controlling minds and ruling the world are just possibilities, not things I'd definitely do.

My last pick would be the most powerful. The Doctor. Reality warpers have it all. Whatever you want to do, you can do it. I think they're cop out answers to this kind of question, and it can take the fun out of it, but it really is the best choice. I could literally do anything I wanted to do. From small things like creating a soda out of thin air when I'm thirsty to recreating the entire world to fit a daydream I'm having where I fight off hordes of demon warriors and save everyone. Impossible is nothing. I'd also have the time control how I want it. (When I said no one had it how I wanted it, I meant no one who wasn't ridiculously powerful in other ways in addition to the time control.) The Doctor is the best choice but I saved it for last. Too much power would take the excitement out of life. That's probably why Hawksmoor is my first choice. He can do a lot, but not everything is under his control. It's better that way.

This post relates to: What's been the most shocking moment in comics for you?

I'm no good with remembering my feelings from the past so the most shocking moment for me is really just the most recent decently shocking moment instead of the most shocking moment ever. Anyway, the moment I'm thinking of is from Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 8 issue 15. Don't want to give it away (otherwise I'd just post the page) but it has to do with Xander and Renee. If you've read it you know what I'm talking about, if not, you can read it and be surprised.

This post relates to: What character do you think has the best costume?

That's right. No shoes.

My favorite costumes are not "costumes" or uniforms. I like the Hero In A Suit look. I even made a list for it. This blog is nothing without images though so I've included probably my favorite dude in a suit.

I also like the cape or trench coat look. Something about the flow of it. I think Batman does it best.

A few people have mentioned him but Madrox is another fave. Not only has he turned his old crappy look into a cool new thing, which is awesome enough, but he sometimes rocks a trench coat like I mentioned above, so bonus for that. I actually almost bought his shirt online. Maybe I should...

I think most of the costumes I like are more practical ones, things you might see in the real world, or at least are more believable. The spandex generally doesn't work for me. Batman is one of the few exceptions.

And I don't want to end without mentioning Iron Man so...Iron man.

I really like trenchcoats too, and cowls are another favourite of mine; I find that they look better than masks.

Personally, I think suits only work if there are ties involved. What do you think of ties?

Buckshot
on June 29, 2008
I don't think they're necessary. Just glanced over my list quickly and neither Jack Hawksmoor nor Ambrose Chase (I'm sure there were others) wear ties and they look great. On the other hand Pete Wisdom wears a tie and he's looks great too. Some people wear them well, some look fine without them. The suit carries more weight than the tie in my opinion. On a personal note, I never wear a tie with a suit.

Cosmic Sentinel
on June 30, 2008
Suits are cool, ties aren't IMO. They are just there to get caught in things.

Ebony Bishop
on June 30, 2008
I gotta agree with Pete Wisdom only working in a suit. If he wore a costume, I think he'd lose a lot of that thing that makes him cool.

As for the trenchcoat, I always thought it worked on Gambit, but not with that god awful purple number underneath it. When he just stood there, smoking and having the black glowing eyes in the trench, it was awesome. Then he'd jump, and I'd think -- "Nice pink and purple, dude."

Calvin

I do think a tie can look good for a costume.

However, not so good for crime-fighting, or fighting of some sort. What do you think any person do to a neck with a tie during a fight?
Believe me, ties aren't practical.

Starshade

I swore never to wear a tie since well... a ... dog grabbed me by a tie. Why I was wearing it in the first place strikes me as odd. I don't think I ever wore it before (or after lol). Capes - cool, Cowls - Awesome, masks -not so much

My Reviews

It's like watching a movie in rewind.

No, it's not stapled wrong. Thats what I thought when I first got Midnighter #7. I opened it up and I'm greeted with "The End." I read a few more pages and figured out what was going on. I had to really stop and think, do I want to read backwards like they wanted me to, or should I read it in order? I chickened out and flipped to the end. At the end/beginning I read, "Hi, I'm Midnighter. I already know exactly how this story ends." With that I was forced to go back to the beginning and read it from finish to start. It was a little bit of a challenge, mostly because even though it's backwards, you still read down. It felt more like I was reading it out of order than just reading it backwards; reversing the order of the panels on the page would have helped, but whatever, I got through it and got what they were trying to do. The layout and transitions even got better at the end, probably because there was more dialogue there so it was necessary to make it so it could be read easily both ways.

The story wasn't great. In fact, without the reverse-order thing, this is probably the worst story I've ever read. An antagonist so simple that not only can her entire scheme be summed up in two word balloons, but she doesn't even get a name. That's perfectly okay though, because it's not about the story. It's all about the gimmick. The purpose of this issue is to explain Midnighter's powers, his ability to predict what his opponent is going to do. I think that's done very well. He sees all the possible outcomes, picks the one he wants, then works backwards to get there from where he is now. It was interesting being along for the ride as the process happened. It was almost like "A Day in the Mind of Midnighter," but this was only one of the many possible scenarios. I think I might start reading more stories backwards.

Or maybe not.

Gage's Midnighter isn't the walking slaughterhouse (at first) that we've come to know and love, but that's not a bad thing. I loved the way everything went. Even when Midnighter is being shown in a different light, he retains all the dark humor and ultraviolence that he's known for. When Jack Hawksmoor sends Midnighter to get in touch with his human side and act like a normal hero for once, he gives it a genuine effort, but the world he lives in takes over and a simple errand turns into a fight against cyborgs and a mad scientist with drops of We 3 thrown in for good measure. Even adopting a pet like a normal person is done in the most bizarre way possible. The writing, both the dialog and the plot itself, were excellent. The art was a little weird but I didn't mind. I like the self-contained stories that have been in this series and I think this one is the best so far.

Some suggestions for Battle Forum rules: 1. Make sure characters are spelled correctly (nobody will find "Hluk veersus Supperman") 2. Use vs as opposed to versus (most people use that - good for searching with quotes) 3. Keep silly battles to a minimum - Aunt May vs. Odin is fun once in a while, but gets tiring if overused
