I Battled For The Doom Stone
Hale is tasked, by the Adventurer's Club, to locate Amos Simpson, who disappeared while searching for the legendary Kraka Stone. Hale's investigation leads him to a native tribe, one that has been given advanced technology by a "Kind God". Hale wonders if this "Kind God" could be Simpson. Hale tracks the "Kind God" to the interior of an extinct volcano. There, he finds a massive creature, guarding the Kraka Stone. The creature repels every effort Hale makes, to get close to the Kraka Stone. Suddenly, Simpson comes crashing out of the brush. Simpson had been using the power of the Kraka Stone to aid the tribesmen, when the creature appeared.
Ever since, Simpson has not been able to get past the creature and regain the Kraka Stone. Hale places a bomb next to the creature. Astonishingly, the creature disarms the explosive device. Back at the campsite, Hale asks Simpson to repair their generator. Simpson, though, is not up to the task. That night, Hale discovers the creature repairing the generator. Hale realizes that the creature is Simpson. Upon discovering the Kraka Stone, Simpson was transformed into the horrific monstrosity. Working at night, so the tribesmen would not see him, Simpson has been building improvements to their land. The following morning, Hale, and "Simpson", gas the creature to get to the Kraka Stone.
The creature slumps over unconscious. "Simpson" draws a pistol on Hale, and claims the stone for himself. Hale reveals that the creature is the real Simpson, transformed by the power of the Kraka Stone. The power of suggestion cause "Simpson" to feint, believing he is being transformed into a monster. "Simpson" is revealed to be Hale's rival from the Adventurer's Club, Roy Cathcart. Simpson opts to stay behind, and continue to aid the tribesmen. Hale promises to return for Simpson, should he ever decide to reclaim his humanity.
