Mucous Membrane was a minor punk band. It was formed by John Constantine and Gary Lester. Constantine was a songwriter and lead singer, Lester was a songwriter and guitarist, Beano was the drummer, Les was the bassist, and Chas Chandler was their driver (they also had an unnamed female keyboardist, who appeared in their music video).
It disbanded two years after it formed, after Lester, Constantine and a group of others (who came to be known as
The Newcastle Crew) tried (and succeeded) to summon a demon to get rid of a monster in the
Casanova Club. The event left them all mentally unstable. John Constantine was Ravenscar, a mental institute, and the band broke up.
They have been largely forgotten now, and most people, including
Chas Chandler (the band's driver and roadie), and Constantine himself, have said that they were terrible.
