Is This Truly the End?
No, no, no -- this can't be how this series is ending! Has Marvel Comics and Brian Reed given up on Ms. Marvel entirely?! Why? The fans haven't, well not completely, but with watered down material like this, you can't blame them if they do. What I mean to say is that although there's an interesting mystery developing concerning the appearance of the thought-dead Captain Marvel, there's a senseless mini-battle between one of Mystique's henchman and our star, but there's no real explanation as to why Mystique has had such a hate-on for Carol and why she's deemed now to exact her revenge. Yes, perhaps that's where Reed's getting to, but there should be clues and hints dropped, and as a Ms. Marvel fan of over twenty years, I would appreciate a look back at the feud that's continued between these two enemies. Two other disappointing factors, the art of Ben Oliver makes Ms. Marvel UG-LY! And Mystique, a woman who's known for taking on the X-Men single handily, has a rather poor showing against Ms. Marvel. Why waste time having Carol battle a thug, when we could have been treated to the main event in a fight worthy of both women.
There's only one issue left to wrap up the current storyline and that means, unfortunately, that other plot lines like Carol's missing boyfriend, William (revealed to be a Kree solider during Secret Invasion), and her quest to be the best of the best get lost, without any conclusion. MS. MARVEL was such a great book for years, but it seems ever since the "War of the Marvels' story it's lost its legs. What's to become of Carol once this series ends? Hopefully it's not a return to comic book limbo like she had been placed on and off after she first resigned from the Avengers (After an attack from Mystique and Rogue - again something that could have been pointed out.). AH!
