What happened with this book? Suddenly it became Dullsville with a single issue. The childish art of Sergio Arino certainly didn't help make this prelude to Summer's, "War of the Marvels", seem very sincere. With crazy Deadpool and AIM trying to find all of the Storytellers (see last issue review for more info), Spider-Man and Wolverine trying to help an energy woman who most likely is Carol Danvers, and current Ms. Marvel (Dr. Karla Sofen) trying to keep everyone away from the Storytellers -- there's plenty to fill these pages, but I finished reading in minutes flat, feeling as though pages must have been stuck or something causing me to skip some.
Despite the good Avengers coming to the aid of the Storytellers and the strange entity who, at the end is revealed to actually be the real Ms. Marvel when all her energy selves are united into her single form, I was left confused as to Sofen's motivation for wanting the Storytellers in the first place. Does she crave their vast power? Or are her concerns more petty and was hoping Danvers would stay dead? Something else, seeing Spider-Woman delay Sofen from stopping Spider-Man hook up the Storytellers to return Carol to normal, made me realize that Spider-Woman, AKA Jessica Drew, is one of Carol's best friends, same with Wolverine. So why when Carol was searching for heroes to assist in her return to human form did she go to Spider-Man? They've had two odd ball adventures of late, but nothing that relates to the goings on of the last few issues. Reed seems to respect Ms. Marvel continuity so I had wished last issue guest-starred the Web-Lady, not the Web-Slinger.
Oh, and another small nit pick, Sofen's narration boxes have a lightning bolt, but her own personal Ms. Marvel emblem is a star. A small, but important detail when you now have two Ms. Marvels on the loose.
