In the end, Malice managed to escape but nearly died, a punishment Sinister felt she deserved.

Although both are master shapeshifting and their ages expand far into the past, Mystique most likely being older than Sinister, they don't seem to have had any relations up until the recent times. During the Messiah Complex storyline Sinister had to regroup and under his guidance were a vast multitude of mutants (considering only about 300 still existed), this included Mystique who had become his second-in-command. She was often confused about his plans as he thought on a level above her but still their alliance seemed to be true. Yet when he refused to save Rogue, who was in a coma, Mystique's motherhood instinct caused her to become angry and she pushed Sinister's face up to that of Rogue, killing him instantly. She then took on his form in order to gain the Baby Mutant, furthering her own plans, proving that she is the mightier of the two.
