Now This is More Like It!

While I found the first arc of this series to be a letdown, this second arc makes up for it and is much more what I was hoping for from this series. Abandoning several of the aspects of the series that I hadn't been enjoying and going into one of my favorite comic formats, this trade definitely strives to please!

I absolutely love single-issue stories in comics (when done well of course) and I think the concept of using them to get close to characters is a perfect one and it was well done in this case. To me, the beauty of a good one-shot profiling of a character is if the story focusing on a single character is interesting, even if the character is not which I found to be the case in several of these. And not every character should be like-able mind you, but they should have some sort of story that makes them three-dimensional and I would say that after this, all of the six "Morning Glories" have qualified in that quest.

Eisma's art is still nothing to write home about but I would say I've become more complacent with it after twelve issues. Not necessarily a good thing, but it feels like less of a drawback when the writing is much more engaging as it felt now.

The series still is full of mysteries and very little, if anything, has actually been answered but again, with so many questions, I don't feel too bothered not having any answers, the story still works in its own way and maybe things will get revealed in the future. The cliffhangers and teases are getting better thankfully though, so while I don't feel compelled to try and figure out everything, I am much more excited at the end of each issue to read the next one.

It's too bad the series couldn't start off with a bang but it's definitely a grower, I just hope it remains consistent with this quality.

Nick Spencer does a great job of developing the backstories of the Glories, adding yet more mystery at the same time. I also really enjoyed the addition of the character Abraham, finding the connection he has with the Glories to be very intriguing. On top of this it was also nice to finally get an explanation to the two Jun's we saw at the end of issue two, with this particular development being very dramatic and gripping to read. The only minor thing that bugged me from time to time was the tim...

The Story: As the mysteries of the Morning Glories Academy slowly unfold, so do the secrets of the students past lives. My Thoughts:Nick Spencer is not your average writer. He's quickly gained attention with this series which happens to be his first monthly on-going. He's written other works but none have received the amount of attention Morning Glories has and for good reason. Nick Spencer's talents as a writer really shine in this second trade. I was sold after reading the first trade but now ...
