Can't Cooperate to Save Your Own Life; You Don't Deserve to Live
Morning Glories is rapidly heading for 'meh' territory. The writing seems to be stretching the plot thinner and thinner with each issue.
In this issue, Casey plans an insurrection, and manages to recruit most of her classmates to join her. Trouble is, they are facing pretty much as close to an unbeatable foe as can be imagined, and they can't seem to work together to save their lives - literally. The kids constant bickering in the face of real danger doesn't make this book more believable, it makes it less so. I'm not saying that they should or would be perfectly harmonious, but the in-fighting just doesn't ring true here, and their inability to come together when it's clearly in all their best interests to do so not only seems false, it also makes me like the characters less, and care what happens to them even less than that.
The saving grace would be the art, but it seems that Joe Eisma seems to have cranked this issue out super fast. Miss Daramount's ordinarily luscious gams seem to have inflated calves, and a lot of the faces look a little funny looking.
There's a great twist at the end here, but I fear things are going to reset 'back to normal' next issue with Morning Glories becoming a comic book 'Gilligan's Island'; how will they try to get off the island this week?
