What Is Love?
Baby don't hurt me, no more!
*cough* Sorry...Anyways..
You know, thinking about Avengers:Eternal Warfare, I feel even more disappointed that Ellis didn't really give it any real effort, because after reading this, I know exactly what he is capable of, or better yet I don't know of how much he is capable of. Anyways, this is the conclusion to a very short yet brilliant run by warren Ellis. Before going further and talking about the issue itself, I'd like to mention the only possible thing I was let down by. Thing is, the run doesn't feel that it has any real direction, it feels episodic, however, the plus side to this is the fact that Warren Ellis establishes the lore to the Moon Knights universe. He uses his time with the character well and gives us a good view on what the tone should be like, and while other writers may not be able to mimic that, they still have a good direction to follow.
Now I could keep going about how amazing the art is, but I've stated that in numerous reviews, and at this point I feel like a broken record....Ahhh what the hell, the art is absolutely perfect for moon knight, and it's very sad that Shalvey is departing. Sorry had to say it.
Now as for the story, no matter how you loved the previous issues this was definitely the best one, and here is why. Ellis really shows his writing skills off, because throughout the issue Moon Knight doesn't really make a lot of appearances, yet by using the characters around him, Ellis gives us another good look at who Mister knight really is, and what he is the best there is at what he does. It's noteworthy to remember that a lot of writers fail to create good villains in long tedious arcs; hell even movies directors fail to make none-shallow villains in about two and a half hours. Ellis made a cool antagonist in about 20 pages. We know his motivations, his background, and we have a conflicting view on him. In a short amount of time Ellis made me hate yet feel sorry for a completely new character, and that takes extreme amount of skill. Sure, he might not be Moon Knights equal in a fist fight, but he can definitely fill Black Specters shoes in eventually, and if the Marvel Cinematic universe has taught me anything, it's that powerful villains don't make good ones.
All in all, This was a fantastic ride. In six issues Ellis added a lot of integral elements to the MK's lore while simultaneously maintaining the appropriate tone and marks history without compromising anything. To be completely honest, I wasn't even planing on reviewing this issue, but after reading it I knew that I just had to get my thoughts across, because it was that good. Cheers!
