I recently went back and re-read a lot of old Superman comics. When reading those to do with Mongul, it actually upset me a bit as Mongul was meant to be this almost unstoppable force Pre-Crisis, but then got nerfed hella hard. This thread is dedicated the the few feats he has Post-Crisis.
1. Military leader
A conqueror of worlds, Mongul is a veteran of warfare.
2. Mongul battles Superman in the gladiatorial arena. Knocks him out cold.
Few things to note about this fight.
- Superman is not at his prime. having been traveling through space for a while, he has been fairly distant from any yellow stars.
- Despite this, given how thoroughly Mongul is manhandling him, Superman isn't even sure he could stop him if he were at his peak.
- Even still this book was a little inconstant. After the Cleric wakes Superman up, Superman breaks free from his restraints to fight Mongul again. he trows a few punches that do next to nothing and just as Mongul grabs him by the throat to finish him, Superman throws an uppercut that briefly knocks him out
3. Mongul battles Superman and Supergirl (matrix). Knocks Superman out.
- Once again, Superman is not at his prime in this fight.
4. Mongul vs Hal Jordan
- Given Mongul's yellow skin, Hal finds it difficult to deal any damage to Mongul
- Despite Mongul practically handing Hal his ass, he loses this fight. IIRC Hal partially tapped into the power of Parallax, and wielding Steel's hammer he knocks Mongul out.
5. Mongul Breaks free from the Slab and starts a prison riot.
6. Mongul beats up Kyle Rayner
- At this point Kyle was a rookie as he only fought one other super villain before this fight.
Now on to this Mongul's best feat
7. Mongul vs Superman and Kyle Rayner
Despite the loss, what makes this a pretty good showing from Mongul is the fact that Superman was more powerful at this point then he was pre-death. This is what finally gives weight to Superman's statement in there first battle.
