You mean that there should be some logical reason outlined within the storyline of the comic? Like when someone changes costumes?

Well if he had his own comic book, then maybe they would. But since he just shows up in other's books it isnt much of an issue. So you could choose to believe that he has cooled off with old age, or has gotten more fiery, or that it depends on the artist as to how a character is depicted. Especially a bit character like him.
