M.O.D.O.K. is an acronym for Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. He has a plethora of psychic powers, which he used to take control of AIM.
Before George Tarleton was made into MODOK, by Advanced Idea Mechanics, he was of average intellect. For AIM, Tarleton worked on experiments to unlock mental potential. Some sources say he volunteered and others say he was forced, but Tarleton became the next experiment.
After the transformation, he was to be known as MODOC: Mental Organism Designed Only for Computing. He quickly overthrew AIM, and became their commander. He was then known as MODOK: Mental Organism Designed Only for Killing. As leader of AIM, he has had confrontations with Captain America, SHIELD and Namor.
He was overthrown several times by AIM, and assassins were hired to kill him. He was eventually killed by the Serpent Society. His body was then used as a weapon (without his mind) against Iron Man, who destroyed the body.
AIM used a cosmic cube to recreate MODOK, only to have him be loyal as originally intended. This was not the case, and once again MODOK seized control and placed himself as Scientist Supreme. He had the title taken from him once again however, by Monica Rappacini, a woman MODOK once loved in his human form.
MODOK then set his sights on an item known as the Hypernova, a near infinite power source. Under Monica, AIM also sought it as well. MODOK was able to retrieve it first, but Monica forced MODOK to sell it to her. But MODOK knew it was unstable and gave it to her. It exploded and appeared to have killed her.
MODOK is also a part of the Intelligencia and has played a part in creating the Red Hulk using both cosmic and gamma radiations. He teamed himself with the Leader, the Wizard, the Mad Thinke r, the Red Ghost and Doctor Doom, a group of the smartest villains in the world in a secret ploy for total and final annihilation of their enemies, namely the Hulk. Doom turned on the group after acquiring ancient texts and spells, leaving MODOK and the Leader calling the shots. They are responsible for capturing Reed Richards and Doctor Doom and have laid plans to capture the remaining 6 of the 8 smartest people on Earth. The plan is to absorb all of the 8 smartest's knowledge and use it to their advantage, afterward leaving the mindless husks to whatever the Wizard chooses to do with them.
Superhuman Intelligence: MODOK is extremely intelligent and has remarkable calculating abilities, although he does not have much creativity. MODOK has a photographic memory and can recall anything he has ever known.
Psionic Abilities: MODOK can probe the minds and feelings of others. He can also focus psionic energy into powerful blasts, emitted and controlled from his headband.
Force Field: MODOK can envelop himself in a nearly impenetrable force field, capable of stopping even nuclear blasts.
Heat Generation: MODOK can create intense heat with the power of his mind.
Hover Chair: MODOK is unable to move without his specially designed chair due to his deformed body. It is capable of hovering and flying at moderate speeds. It is controlled by his headband with his mind and contains advanced weaponry, which he has developed or has taken from AIM technology.
MODOK is unable to move without his hover chair. MODOK also wears through his body very quickly. To counter this, MODOK has created countless clones of himself that he harvests organs from. He then uses the brains to power organic hard drives that control AIM equipment.
