Barring circumstantial power-ups that the original five X-Men gained over the years, such as Archangel's metallic wings or Beast's botched attempt to cure himself, does it stand to reason that Mimic has benefited from their power-creep over the years due to increased mastery and secondary mutations?

I also wonder if regular Beast would be relatively stronger now than he was in the 60's like all of the other older characters? Take for instance how when Spider-Man originally could barely lift a car over his head, but over the years managed to enter the 10 ton range. If so, then so should Mimic.

Mimic has appeared in so few comics and so few writers have used him that it's unfortunately hard to say what his limits are or what powers he still does or doesn't have. But most likely he only has the original powers of the original 5 X-Men at their original level. He MIGHT have SOME of Xavier's powers since at one point X-Men ran into him when they tried to search for Professor X and he was stuck with Wolverine's powers and appearance for a while so he also might possess some of Wolverine's powers or be able to recall them.

You make valid points. I would hope that his powers wouldn't stay static since the powers of the original 5 didn't stay static, their powers increased during years of training and maturity. Now granted, Mimic wouldn't get the same degree of training that Xavier could offer but he should have increased experience, and he was just a teen like them originally so they should had matured as he did.

If they did remain static, then I wonder how powerful he'd be compared to the current Marvel universe?

@deadpool: I hope his powers were allowed to develop and mature over time just like other characters' but it's difficult to say. Even though I'm a fan of the character I don't think that he has nearly the same level of skill or control over the powers he has acquired from others since O5 have constantly been active as superheroes and presumably trained in the combat use of their powers daily over the years. Mimic on the other hand usually acts alone or changes teams constantly so any potential training he has received with others is probably minimal.

But then again regular Mimic can supposedly absorb skills and knowledge just like superpowers so theoretically he could have the exact same skill level with any powers he permanently has as the person he copied the powers from had when he was near them the last time. Last time he was close to most of the O5 was soon after AvX so he would then likely have the same skill level as they did at the time. Assuming he does indeed retain any new skills and abilities he absorbs from them. Or maybe he only has that skill level when he is near them and once he gets away from them he forgets the new skills he got form them and goes back to whatever skill level he has himself.

Another thing that makes me suspect that he isn't at the same level of skill as the original owners of those abilities is the fact that writers usually portray him as being kind of afraid of his own powers and potential and being reluctant to explore them which makes sense from the storytelling perspective since he would be pretty much unstoppable if he was written as being completely in control of all of his powers and skills. And it's hard to write an unstoppable character as either the hero or the villain in a story.
