Milestone was a strong publisher in the early 90's, but were still an imprint under DC.
Milestone was a comic book publisher who centered their stories around minorities, and gave birth to numerous heroes with interesting detail. They had successful cross over stories, and most took place in the fictional city of Dakota. One of their most famous occurances in the Dakotaverse is the Big Bang, an event that gave many main characters their super abilities.They are famous for such heroes like Static, Icon, and Hardeware as well as the super powered gang the Blood Syndicate.
