I'm aware people are adapting to and liking the Miles Morales as i like him too (don't get me wrong), just a random thought, but how would people feel if marvel made spider-man of Black/Chinese descent in the ultimate universe after Peter Parker died (which i felt was not necessary although it was well done)?
Miles Morales
Character » Miles Morales appears in 1193 issues.
Originally created in the Ultimate Universe, this version of Spider-Man is a 16 year old kid named Miles Morales from Brooklyn who takes on the Spider-Man identity after Peter Parker's death. Miles discovers spider powers of his own after he was bitten by a spider 11 months before Peter's death, and uses these powers to be the best superhero he can be. Currently, Miles lives in the main Marvel Universe and is a member of the Champions.
What if marvel made a Black/chinese spider-man?
How about make a interesting chracther regardless of ethnicity.
You still pick an ethnicity when you make a new character. You don't throw darts on a board.

Make the character an alien in that case problem solved.

Thank you. If the first thing that comes to your head when you read about a new character is "Hey look a black guy!" and not "Well he seems like an interesting character" than you may have a problem.
Marvel should utilize their Indian Spiderman first.

You realize people can do both, right?

What? What's wrong with making an interesting character, like Miles Morales, who happens to be non-white? Latinos, Asians, and Native Americans can't get better representation AND an interesting character everyone will like?
I'm just happy Marvel is still trying to make new characters work--like Robbie Reyes. He seems to have plenty of interesting character potential to me.
@outlawrenegade: did I say I didn't want diversity ? No. I just said that regardless of race the character should be interesting. If the ony thing the character has going for them and the only reason why the public is aware is because of the race then you have a problem. It should be Wow great character awesome back story keeps you want to read more and and the race to be the last thing you think of when reading it.
I don't understand these types of threads
What if Miles was black/chinese instead of black/latino?
since his race has played absolutely no role in the series at all so far then I'm going to guess that it would make absolutely no difference at all to the series
@humanrocket: Yes, but when you say things like just make him an alien, it sounds like you are trying to ignore parts of a character. A character is great for the whole, not the parts.
everybody forgets the real minority in comics are non-Americans
Go read X-Men, you commie. :D

yea but they all live in America
@outlawrenegade: Ronin the accuser is a great chracther because of his desire of a warrior to protect his people. Silver Surfer is another great character becuase of his efforts for trying to save planets from Galactus consumption and despite being transformed into the surfer he still has his morals and values. You see were I'm going with this ?

Not all of them. Some are back home, like Thunderbird III (India) and Sunfire (Japan). You can read Batman Inc and some comics your country produces.

Sunfire, Storm, Miles Morales, Sunspot, Jaime Reyes, etc. are all great characters who the creators decided should be interesting AND not look like 95% of the other heroes. It was a series on conscious decisions.
Appearance doesn't have to be central, but it doesn't mean it should not be given any thought. It's actually impossible not to give it any thought. See where I'm going with this?
@outlawrenegade: no actually no I don't see we're your going with this you just listed African American chracther in response to my list. But lets just agree that a chracther should be interesting and if they are if a ethic minority then it should be a happy coincidence and not the main intend of the making of the character.
@humanrocket: It should not be the only thing about the character or the first thing thought about when making the character, but there are no happy coincidences when you construct a character.
Also Sunfire is Japanese, Storm is Kenyan (not African American), Sunspot is Brazilian, and Jaime Reyes is Mexican-American.
@outlawrenegade: again why are you saying that I claim it should be the only thing ? I keep saying the chracther itself has to be interesting the ethnicity should be the last thing to come to mind. People should not buy the book just because they notice oh look this is a Mexican hero oh look let me buy this because the hero is from Spain. You focus on giving them a good back story a good cast of villains good morals values to live by and then at the end of th day you worry about which ethnicity you give them. Luke Cage is the perfect of example for me. You think I gain interest in him because I thought to myself oh hey look a black super hero alright yah! No they have him a great back story on how he gained his powers. A great story on he got into Heroes For Hier and they have him great morals and values that he still lived by even when he was making so much money. The same goes for T'challa. If you have been reading the current new Avengers you see that even to destroy another world T'challa's morals and values of being a good person conflict with the decisions that other new avengers want to do with dealing with the destruction of another planet. These characters aren't great because they are of a minority race there great because the writes gave them qualities that we want to see in heroes and not what the color of their skin is.

Yes. I'm just saying why would it have mattered if the new Spider-Man had been Chinese instead of Hispanic? Its the overall character, not just their race, that matters.
The reason why i made this topic because i watched a youtube video titled " New Spider-man is half-black half-latino. what no asians? which got me asking in the first place. Race shouldn't be an issue and i wasn't being unfair, but racism and lack of diversity will still be present in comics, especially if they make a superhero based on a well established superhero who people recognised as white. e.g. people are upset that peter parker died and miles morales is the new spiderman or when Ms Marvel is now Muslim when she was white and say it is was a publicity stunt or being politically correct, but it was actually a way to represent diversity in the 21st century.
How about Marvel stop being lazy and feeding off the Spider-man popularity and making PC garbage to feed off it and leave Peter as the only Spider-man and leave Kane as the Scarlet Spider who shows up once a decade
@outlawrenegade: Storm was born in america and raised in Kenya so yes, she is African american.
