Mike Zeck was born on September 6, 1949 in Greenville, Pennsylvania to Michael and Kathryn Jean Zeck. He got his first experience with comics in 1953, recovering from a tonsillectomy in a Greenville hospital. While those were westerns, he became "crazy" for Superman comics. Zeck enjoyed drawing, and would do it when he had spare time at school. In third grade, one of his teachers noticed Zeck was spending more time drawing than in school and phoned his parents. His mother explained that Mike only wanted to draw comic characters. The teacher, who had art training, taught Mike how to draw heads.

In 1962 (when Spider-Man was introduced), Mike Zeck became addicted to Marvel comics, even redrawing a Steve Ditko story for a school project about what he wants his future career to be. Mike would attend the Ringling School of Art in 1967. His first artist job was with the Broward County School board in Florida. He would make any art they needed, and also handled photography.

In 1974, Charlton Comics gave him his first job. He was to provide illustrations for their animated line of comics. This lead to a job making covers and light story work in their horror comics. This lasted until 1977 when Charlton stopped buying new art. He moved on to Marvel, handling fill in work for Shang-Chi, eventually taking over the monthly duties on the book in 1978. In 1981, he moved on to a run on Captain America that would last 3 years.

On May 6th, 1992, Mike married his wife, Angel. They divorced in 2003. He married again in the fall of 2004, to Sheryll Cortez.
