Origin

After graduating from the School of Journalism Mikael Blomkvist would go on to become a top Swedish investigative journalist, and co found and editor of Millennium magazine. Through his work with Millennium magazine, a political journalistic publication Blomkvist would find himself in hot water after losing a libel case against wealthy businessman Hans-Erik Wennerström. His new work would lead him to meet another wealthy businessman Henrik Vanger offering a chance of redemption, and a young strange computer hacker Lisbeth Salander. Mikael also enjoys an intimate relationship with co owner of Millennium magazine Erika Berger.

Creation

Mikeal Blomkist is a fictional character created by writer Stieg Larsson for his book series Millennium. The books success has garnered its own movie adaptations as well as its own graphic novel series, released by Vertigo. Writer Denise Mina and artist Leonardo Manco will be fulfilling the creative duties for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo graphic novel adaptation. The character himself is loosely based on another fictional Swedish character, the boy detective Bill Bergson.

Character Evolution

Often overshadowed by his co star Lisbeth Salander in later stories, much of the main plot of the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo revolves around Mikeal Blomkvist, and his fall from grace to uncovering a deep dark murder mystery.

Major Story Arcs

Fall from Grace

Blomkvist is coming off a losing court case and facing public scandal and pressure. His partially owned Millennium magazine is facing financial loss from the controversy and scandal. Mislead by a source he trusted, Blomkist now faces jail time, a hefty fine and a ruined career. In a twist of good fortune he would be approached by a man representing Henrik Vanger with an offer and job opportunity. Blomkvist would be hesitant and run through the scenario in his mind as well as run over what taking this job may mean for his social life, family life and affect his business/magazine. He would talk over the opportunity with coworker and lover Erika Berger. He would explain how his presence is hurting Millennium and how he should quit at least for a while to give Millennium a better chance to recover. Not only that but Blomkvist is informed by Vanger's associate that by accepting this new job offer theyw ould give him more than enough evidence to incriminate Wennerström and clear his name.

Mikael Blomkvist possesses no inherent super powers or abilities, he is just an ordinary human with average fitness. Blomkvist does possess above average intelligence and articulation. He is a investigative journalist.
