Skrulls attack!
The event of the summer continues. Is it meeting your expectations? I'm still recovering from last week's massive hit of Secret Invasion tie-ins.
Secret Invasion Continues To Infiltrate & Sell Out Quickly!
The top-selling event of the year continues to steamroll over the competition as Marvel is proud to announce more Secret Invasion tie-in sell outs! Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four #2, Ms Marvel #28, Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers #1, Mighty Avengers #15 and Avengers: The Initiative #14 have all sold out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level). Marvel currently has no plans to go back to press on these issues which reveal secrets behind the Skrull invasion! How were Hank Pym and Spider-Woman replaced? What can the Human Torch and the Thing do to save the FF? What secret does 3-D Man hold? What do the Skrulls want with Hulking and Xavin? All these answers and more have been revealed—but do you know the truth and who you can trust?
With quick sell outs of virtually all Secret Invasion tie-ins, Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on future issues of Secret Invasion: Fantastic Four, Ms Marvel, Secret Invasion: Runaways/Young Avengers, Mighty Avengers and Avengers: The Initiative! There’s no comic event this year like Secret Invasion and as the story continues, the Marvel Universe finds itself altered irrevocably!
The Invasion continues in these upcoming tie-ins:

Sentry,
Mighty Avengers,
Skrulls
So you figure they're going to want to take him out. He's Earth's strongest weapon (when he isn't going crazy or crying like a baby). I do still wonder about his wife. She was killed by the female Ultron (using Tony Stark's body). Then after the fight, she was alive. I guess they tried putting to his shakey sanity. I don't buy that. I say she did die. We already know that Jarvis was taken over by a Skrull so "he" was probably there when Lindy died. They got someone else in there ASAP to take her place. I say they're going to use her to try to take down Sentry.
The Skrull hunt continues! After the shocking reveal of a new Howling Commandos team in the last issue, Eisner-award winning writer, and the brain behind Secret Invasion, Brian Michael Bendis focuses on the Golden Guardian of Good in Mighty Avengers #14! This Secret Invasion tie-in, with eye popping art from rising star Khoi Pham (Incredible Hercules), answers the questions surrounding the erratic Sentry and arrives wrapped in a stunning cover by artist Marko Djurdjevic!
A continuing enigma to the Marvel Universe, Sentry’s fragile mental state makes him a ticking time bomb, leaving everyone around him in constant danger. In the Sentry’s darkest hour, one could only expect an appearance from his arch-nemesis, The Void…but how does this tie into the Skrull invasion?
Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on Mighty Avengers and all other Secret Invasion tie-ins as they continue to sell out at Diamond and as fans continue to ask “Who do you trust?”
What are the Skrulls’ plans for Bob Reynolds? How does his wife Lindy factor in? Find out the answers to these questions and more in Mighty Avengers #14!

There's no way anyone could be surprised by issue one selling out. I'm sure Marvel had a nice hefty print run but with all the hype and great word of mouth, people are going to want to snatch this up. I usually don't like the huge "event" comics so much but this was something. Now to try to wait for issue 2!
To meet the overwhelming demand for this year’s hottest comic book event, leading to a quick sell out at Diamond (though copies may be available at the retail level), Marvel is going back to press with Secret Invasion #1 Second Printing Variant! With a gorgeous wraparound cover featuring the interior art of Leinil Yu—and the return of some familiar faces! From the superstar creative team of Eisner-winner Brian Bendis (New Avengers, Mighty Avengers) and acclaimed artist Leinil Francis Yu (New Avengers), this double-sized first issue has the jaws of fans and critics on the floor!
“I just want to say thank you to every retailer and comic reader who jumped into this with us,” said Bendis. “We have so much more to show you. This is just the beginning!”
Marvel urges retailers to check their orders on Secret Invasion and tie-in issues, as both continue to generate buzz and quick sell outs. Just what do the Skrulls have planned? Who are the heroes who’ve emerged from the Skrull craft? And with systematic attacks on every major force in the Marvel Universe, can anyone rise up to oppose the Skrulls? Don’t miss a single issue of Secret Invasion!

Looks like a good week this week. I'm looking forward to Captain America: The Chosen. I dig David Morrell's writing. I want to know how this is going to end. I'm not so sure if I'm looking forward to Exiles. Things are going to change. Yes change can be good but is it really necessary? Iron Fist is always good. Mighty Avengers? Feels like it's been a while since the last issue. I'd rather this Ultron story end. I've never really been a fan of Ultron. Female Ultron? What about Tony Stark? He's supposed to be in there somewhere. The other weird thing is this was their first mission. We've seen them in several other "adventures" since so we know things must work out. Ah, the joy of continuity. How come this wasn't such a problem years back? Have comic universes become so big and complicated it's just too hard to keep up? If so, how are we, the readers, supposed to keep up? Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking the creators on Mighty Avengers but it sort of takes some of the gas out of the balloon, ya know? Anyways, all of this and another chapter in Messiah Complex. It's going to be a nice knock down fight.

Mighty Avengers,

The Initiative,

Who would've thought that Skrulls could be cool? I mean these are the guys that were tricked into thinking they were cows (and then later turned into Skrullburgers, yum). Then again, when hasn't Bendis surprised us. I'm really looking forward to this. Five years in the making? Sounds good. I like a well, thought out plot rather than a quick slapped together story. It seems like there's an actual story here. No shocking death (besides Elektra, who I'd say is still alive somewhere) to sell the story. I'm so tired of the "let's kill _________ (insert semi-major character here) so we can show the world how bold we are and then we'll bring them back later in a somewhat clever way." Don't get me wrong, I know Bendis "killed" Hawkeye and brought him back (I wasn't impressed with that "idea"). I know that Brubaker is doing a great job with the death of Cap. It's just we don't need the same thing over and over. Death is so meaningless in comics. Raise your hand if you believe that Cable's dead. Comic characters are like the Terminator. They'll always "be back."
So who's a Skrull? Stark is a major jerkwad but making him a Skrull is too easy. Cap being a dead Skrull would be too easy too (plus his body reverted to an old man, not a Skrull). Dr. Strange seems to be acting a little weird but I don't think he's one. But he did do that spell to see if everyone (in the New Avengers) was innocent and didn't pick up on the fact that Luke Cage's kid had glowy eyes. It's also kinda interesting that both Strange and Stark are on opposite sides yet they are both in the Illuminati.
I just hope they tie up all the dangling stories first. The Mighty Avengers are still fighting Ultron (and Iron Man is still a hot chick) and there's also the World War Hulk tie stuff where the two groups have basically put aside their differences. Whatever happened to continuity?
It’s the event over five years in the making and now that the Skrulls’ plans have come to light, it’s time for Secret Invasion: Infiltration to be exposed! All Marvel titles bearing the Secret Invasion: Infiltration banner provide crucial tie-ins to the most anticipated event of 2008—Secret Invasion. If you want to know everything about the machinations of the shape shifting Skrulls, the secret agents hiding in the Marvel Universe and just how the heroes prepare for the most explosive battle of 2008, then you can’t miss an issue of the Infiltration!
In New Avengers: Illuminati #5, by the red-hot creative team of writers Brian Bendis, Brian Reed and artist Jimmy Cheung, the mysterious Illuminati come together to discuss the shocking discovery in New Avengers #31—the Skrull body of Elektra! As this evidence of invasion is presented to the group, they must decide what this means to the future of Earth and who they can trust! By the end of the issue, the Illuminati will never be the same again as a jaw dropping revelation with the team—and readers—stunned. War is declared…but by who?
Then, in Avengers: The Initiative Annual #1, from acclaimed author Dan Slott and a line-up of fan-favorite artists including Salvador Larroca, Clayton Henry, Patrick Scherberger and cover artist Jimmy Cheung, secrets of the Initiative are revealed! As the hidden origins of MVP, Armory, Hardball and more are brought to light, readers will gain insight into the inner workings of Tony Stark’s bold new vision…and into the Skrull invasion? You’ll never guess how it all comes together and just who is responsible for this deception!
This November, the next stage of the Skrull offensive is uncovered in Secret Invasion: Infiltration and there’s no going back for the Marvel Universe! Lives will be shattered as every hero and villain is forced to ask…Who Do You Trust?
Don’t miss the opening salvos in New Avengers: Illuminati #5 and Avengers: The Initiative Annual #1!

I just can't go ga-ga over this group of Avengers. Compare Mighty with New. It's almost as if there isn't a comparison. Both are well written by Bendis. I'll admit I do like the return of the "thought balloons." Maybe it was a tiny bit much but it was entertaining. I like Frank Cho's art. Leinil's art is amazing but...sometimes...lacking a tiny bit in detail. I'd love to have his style but it is pretty different from David Finch's clean, detailed style. I just think that New has a better roster. They're almost more of a family even though they can barely trust each other with all the Skrull stuff going on. Mighty's roster just doesn't do much for me. Plus there's the fact that Iron Man is on the team. Although having been turned into a hot chick is kind of funny. Funnier than Rob Schneider's flick.
Nuclear missiles have been launched, Iron Man is nowhere to be seen and the Sentry is mourning the loss of his wife. Oh yeah, Ultron’s back and it’s taken the form of Janet Pym so it can wreak havoc on the world! In Mighty Avengers #5, from the red-hot superstar creative team of writer Brian Bendis and artist Frank Cho, it’s the penultimate chapter of the team’s first mission…but is there any way to defeat a foe who just won’t stay down? Ares, former villain turned ally is Earth’s Newest Mightiest Hero, but he may just be their last hope!
Luke Handley of SilverBulletComicBooks.Com praised the series, exclaiming, “Bendis seems to effortlessly combine good old superheroics with his usual trademark banter.”
With the entire world at risk, the Mighty Avengers put it all on the line to stop the seemingly unstoppable Ultron and when the dust clears, the team will never be the same again! It’s all coming up in Mighty Avengers #5 as Earth’s Mightiest confronts Earth’s Deadliest!
