Surely this is a dark day for comics. Another life lost to cancer. My condolences.

37 is no age. I had no idea that he had been unwell, so this is totally a bolt from the blue to me. Turner was a modern day great artist and his family, friends and comic enthusiasts have been robbed of many great years. Thanks for the memories MT  - rest in peace. I hear Steve Gerber has also died (don't know any details though)

I concur, Turner's stylized realism started a movement within the comic industry. Heck, I did a 3' x 4' pen and ink drawing in his honor for a college art project.  My Instructor was originally against my choosing a comic artist as an example of "Contemporary Art" but he changed his tune once he saw the original work on page 110-111 of  Witchblade Vol. II the compiled paperback.

Does anyone know the day he died? I'd Like to add it to my tribute piece- like a little memorial.

I was just forwarded this from Top Cow.  It's from Marc Silvestri.

    Loss
I've been fortunate in life that I've never experienced the loss of someone close to me. That fortune has changed and the feeling is unlike any I have ever experienced. This past weekend the comic world and the people who knew Michael Turner have been dealt a terrible blow by his passing at age 37.
I had known Mike for more than twelve years and even through ups and downs had loved him like a brother. My respect for him as a talent and more importantly as a man could not have been higher. Mike was quite literally the strongest man I had ever met. And I believe ever will.
Mike had been sick with cancer for almost eight years and the only way one would have known is if someone else told them. He never mentioned it, he never showed it. Ever. Not because he was trying to avoid your pity because he was above that, pity simply never crossed his mind. It was because it was HIS life and he was going to fight for it and live it to its fullest. All the way to the end.
The last time I saw Michael Turner was a year ago at a comic convention. The cancer was putting up a fight and was again trying to do the unthinkable, it was trying take his life. But because of who he was, he was having none of it. I saw him, he saw me, we both smiled genuine smiles. We shook hands, and gave each other a hug the way guys do, with as much respect as love.
A few years ago Mike and I had hit a bump in our relationship that cut us both deeply. We had gotten over it and were cool but when I saw him at the convention I said to him (and myself) that we need to talk some things through just because we should. The way he looked at me and (I'm sure) what he saw in the way I looked at him said; Absolutely, but not because we need to. We were good and we both knew it. Mike was always too focused on living and loving life to dwell on bullshit from the past. That was the essence of who he was and the legacy he will leave.
Michael lived his life the way we all should, as the gift that it is. So in his honor, the next time I bitch about the stupid little things that aggravate, I'll think about the strongest man I ever met and do what he would have done, I will kick the stupid little aggravation out of the way and get on with living.
Michael Turner didn't bitch and moan and complain about the unfair cards that were dealt him. Mike knew how to live life, and we who knew him must honor him by living the same way. He lived with dignity and in the end, he knew how to die the same way.
    Rest in peace my friend.

So sad.  The cover for Uncanny X-Men 500 is a fine epitaph, a terrific piece of art.

This is a true shame.  The comic world has lost a true visionary.  Michael Turner's fresh voice, breathtaking work, and indominable spirit will be missed.   My prayers go out to his entire family.

At least he and Mike Wieringo are cranking out jam pages in Heaven.

This is really bad Michael was one of the Artists I admired when I started drawing and buying comics, sad indeed, I for one hope his legacy lives on that his untold stories don't go to waste, maybe someone like Talent Caldwell could finish them....

No No NOOO!  this cannot be.

I just discovered fathom wich is pretty much a dream come truth and now I find this terrible news.... this is just really really awful. I mean 37? thats not fair......

I wanted to meet him.. and the idea of people skyrocketing the prices of he's comics and art disgusts me and makes me really angry.
He's stuff should be avalibable to everyone and not just oportunistic rich vultures.
Everyone has the right to see how good he was , for me Michael Turner was the King.

    He shall be Forever Remembered.

Yeah. A lot of artists struggle with that. He wasn't bad enough that I couldn't look at it (Turner,) but it didn't garner the same kind of adoration that many people had for him.

I know I'm a bit late on this but Michael turner inspired many not only with his art work but also how he lived his life.  the world was bankrupted of ten million fine actions and great pices of art work the night he passed on. all I know his memory will live on because we will always remember what he did to our world, I know I will. forever and always may he rest in peace.
