    Origin

Before humans, before gods, before life, and even before the Creation of the DC Multiverse, Yahweh, the Almighty, created two brothers, Samael and Michael. Yahweh then bestow each of them gifts: to Samael, he was given the gift of fire and will and to Michael, that of creation, and the demiurgic power.

    Major Story Arcs

    The Spectre:

During the course of Ostrander's the Spectre series, Michael plays a recurring role as the direct voice and agent of Heaven when dealing directly with the Spectre, often standing in the Spectre's path when it or Jim Corrigan would demand an audience with God or entry into Heaven.

In the past it was revealed that the fallen angel that would become the Spectre, was faced with Michael when it came to repent it's actions and that it was he who reformed it into the Spectre to serve as the Wrath of God before setting it to usurp Eclipso the Revenge of God.

Many hundreds of years later, the Lamb was born, and it was decreed that all greater spirits like the Spectre must walk on the Earth clothed in humanity, it was Michael who had to beat the Spectre into submission as the wild spirit was little more than rage. At the battle's conclusion, Michael disguised himself as a Hindu deity before bonding the Spectre with a human, creating the first modern Spectre. Likewise, it was he who bonded the Spectre to Jim Corrigan when he was given the mantle.

During Corrigan's tenure as the Spectre, he used Michael and the heavenly laws against an ancient spirit called Azmodeus, a creation of Lord Belial, who was the first Spectre host now blind with hate over how his wife was reincarnated as a diseased beggar that was stoned to death by villagers. Appealing to the man inside, Corrigan managed to separate the man from the spirit and let Michael damn it back to Belial's realm, marking one of the few cases where the Spectre and Michaeal cooperated without coming to blows.

    Lucifer:

When Lucifer rebelled in heaven billions of years ago, Michael led God's forces against Lucifer but during the battle he was felled by Sandalphon from behind when he hesitated. From that point on, he was kept in captivity by "Lucifer's follower" whose grand scheme was to use Michael's genetic material to create an army of archangels to finish what Lucifer started, which basically is to overthrow Heaven.

The majority of these children were failures but one, his prize, was not, for even better than having the Demiurge inside the child, the child was a female, meaning she could sexually create even more servants for him, she was of course Elaine Belloc. But before Sandalphon could put these plans to fruition, Lucifer came to collect both Elaine and Michael from Sandalphon for he himself needed them. It was revealed that if Michael should die, the release of the power within him would destroy creation.

Lucifer brought Michael to The Lux and was eventually granted entrance for it was the only place it would be safe for Michael to die and rebirth, and there it was that Lucifer impaled his brother and the Demiurge filled the Void.

After dying, Michael was reborn, healthy and full of life once again and he and his brother parted ways. Michael returns to Heaven where he seeks out Yahweh's counseling... counseling which he did not expect . Michael is exiled from Heaven and he begins a quest to find and rescue his daughter.

    The Wolf Beneath the Tree

After he fled Destiny's table in a rage, Michael flew straight to Heaven and landed upon the ledge The Logos, the place where God's voice lives, and once within Michael went to sleep, and poured out the Dunamis Demiurgos into all things, renewing Yahweh's name on every atom in creation moment by moment.

Lucifer interrupts and incinerates The Logoz. Emerging from the rubble a clearly enraged Michael gathers himself rather quickly and says, "Speak quickly, Lucifer. Or I call this Host to witness -- you will not speak again."

Lucifer wins Michael over, and they head to Svartalfheim. Michael is confused as to why they need to be in Svartalfheim if their journey to Yggdrasil won't be physical. Lucifer responds by telling him that The World Tree expects to be approached from such a direction which in relativity, should make things at least a little easier for the three of them. Michael, Lucifer, and Elaine all plummet to the base of the tree, with Michael and Lucifer now unconscious and Elaine blind.

In the fields of Yggdrasil, Michael awakes. Swiftly he clambers to his feet and rushes to get between the two, trying to push Elaine away from his brother, warning Lucifer to stay away from Elaine. But Lucifer's only reply is, "Morningstar? I am Fenris. I am The Wolf!" With that, Lucifer and Michael now begin their final fight, with Michael trying his best not to harm his brother. Michael tells Lucifer to fight it, to be himself, lest all their pain and effort be for naught and creation falls. But Lucifer simply turns his head to the side, blood dripping from his mouth as he grins evilly at his brother, "Excellent." Than in a blur of speed he grabs his brother and Lucifer takes to the air, glowing with energy as he takes his brother higher into the heavens. As they ascend Michael still pleads with his brother, "Morningstar -- brother -- I don't want to kill you --" but Lucifer simply scoffs at these words as he points out that with his broken wings, Michael's strength is failing. His own rant thus begins, "I am the furnace in which you will be unmade. I am your death." But Michael remains stubborn and responds by telling Lucifer that he will be the death of all, and that it will all be his own doing and his alone. Lucifer heeds not these words in his madness and a massive expulsion of power erupts from within him, engulfing both sons of Yahweh, leaving them both to plummet to the ground, burning as they fall.

Michael and Lucifer crash through the upper branches of Yggdrasil, snapping them as they continue their descent, lost to view for some time, but than after things seem to calm down with the departing of Fenris, a broken Lucifer stumbles over to the place where his brother lays in a pool of blood, at the base of the tree, his own leathery wings are naught but spines now, jutting from his back. Cleared of mind he weakly speaks his brother's name, but it is too late. Michael is dying, the fate of creation sealed, but the latter issue is not the current problem for Michael's death provides a problem in and of itself. And so he calls out to Elaine, asking her to come to him, the blinded Elaine follows the voice of her father until she is kneeling at his side. Within himself he holds a power, Yahweh's power, the Dunamis Demiurgos, and should he die, this power would be released, overwhelming all of creation and erasing it. Than it is that her father utters his last words, proving that he can acknowledge his own faults "It would have done no good. I was proud, and stubborn. I could have sought you out. I could have --" and so he dies, Elaine hovering him, a scream ripped from his throat as his nigh-uncontainable energy bursts forth from his body, engulfing Yggdrasil and all within its perimeter.

    Powers and Abilities

Michael Demiurgos is the 2nd most powerful being, rivaled only by his twin brother Lucifer, and surpassed by their father, God of the Covenant and all of Creation. Michael was given the Demiurgic power of God, with this power; He spawn the cosmos out of the nothingess and alongside his brother created the DC Universe.

Although it was Michael, which brought the Creation from the Nothingess, It was Lucifer who shape it all. Michael has the Dunamis Demiurgos(God's Power), with the power he can create and destroy on an infinite scale, but he cannot shape his Creation. Michael powers also stems from all of Creation and he could if he so wishes destroy Creation 10 times over.

In the Main DC universe, he is seen as an Agent of God and guards the gates of Heaven, to anything unwelcomed in its presence. Michael is also always the one Heaven sends, if the Spectre ever needs to be push back into line. Michael is usually seen as a noble warrior, barring a shield and a sword.

    In Other Media

    Television

Michael's most recent appearance is in the series Lucifer, portrayed by Tom Ellis, as Lucifer Morningstar's identical twin brother. Lucifer's gift was found in desires, but Michael had a talent in fears. Envious of Lucifer's title as the Lightbringer and a master of cunning, he instigated his downfall by having him commit nefarious misdeeds, such as the Rebellion, and his sexcapade in the Garden of Eden by carefully planting such ideas. Unhappy over his twin gaining a kingdom (Hell) as a "reward", he eventually planted the idea of a vacation to Earth to reignite their family's hatred of him.

After his twin's abandonment of Hell made Amenadiel begin a quest to return him back to Hell, he lost his divinity and was stranded on Earth, which Michael exploited to work his way to becoming God's right hand, where he was the only direct connection to him, and began plotting to usurp him to prove he was far superior than his twin, beginning by tricking him into having an instability of his powers and needing to retire for months. But he soon faced a new setback after his siblings began praising his twin for ending the demon revolt by reclaiming his throne of Hell, even after his rebellion, which coerced Michael to go to Earth and claim his twin's identity to tarnish his reputation to prove his lack of change.

Experienced in subterfuge and not lacking patience, he uncovered much about his twin, like his first love Chloe having been conceived due to God and put in Lucifer's path, his therapist Linda, and Mazikeen upset over being stuck on Earth and not knowing of Lucifer's knowledge of Lilith's fate. After impersonating his twin for a time, he seemingly had nearly everyone fooled, but Chloe was doubtful, and others were uncertain over his differing behavior from Lucifer's, such as his impulsiveness and lying. But his charade was finally uncovered by Mazikeen, who scurried back from him, knowing Lucifer had a twin brother. Michael played on her anger against his twin to help tarnish his reputation by damaging his relationship with Chloe, but she ultimately refused to go too far. With time, his differing nature from Lucifer's was shown starting from his lying and collected nature to his raven black wings and ability to bring out others' fears. As Chloe finally invited him over to cement their relationship, she ultimately outed him as an impostor, stating she knew he wasn't Lucifer and his lies would never tarnish her and Lucifer's connection. His immediate plan in shambles, he revealed the truth of Chloe's status as a gift from God, being conceived from his Father's direct influence, which made her question her very existence. With time, even Amenadiel uncovered him due to him playing on fears being his typical game.

After Amenadiel descended to Hell to inform Lucifer of Michael's schemes, he waited for a while to let Lucifer learn of the havoc he wreaked before greeting him at his penthouse, "welcoming" him home and taunting him with his real name, Samael and gloating about the chaos he wreaked which doesn't faze Lucifer at all, he's rather dismissive of and rather points out how his goal is always the same regardless of the plan: to prove his superiority over Lucifer and amuses over how it involved actually impersonating him, where Lucifer speaks of him not being cunning enough as a thinker. Deciding to show his cunning's real effectiveness to prove how big a thinker he was compared to Lucifer, he revealed himself as the actual perpetrator of his twin's notorious rebellion, carefully planting the idea in his head, which Lucifer burst into laughter over, since it was a failed coup. But Michael pointed out he just suggested doing it, but Lucifer chose to act, and thus got the blame. With Lucifer getting tired of Michael's taunting, he deemed to be a tedious liar, but Michael knew he was in denial, and he then revealed his part in orchestrating Lucifer's decisions of his fiasco with Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and his vacation to Earth. In complete shock and disbelief, Lucifer claimed he can't have been the instigator of all his decisions, but Michael spoke of how it became easy for him due to his own manipulations being aided by Lucifer's own self-centered nature, and Lucifer, with his confidence shattered, asking why he did that, with Michael claiming it was because Lucifer thought he was better than him, and is now nothing worthy.

With that being a last straw, the angelic twins charged at each other, with the first swing knocking both of them back, with Michael blocking Lucifer's punches until he slammed him to the floor, which Michael did the same to Lucifer but on his broken piano, but Lucifer quickly got on top of him and began strangling him but Michael struck Lucifer in the eye with his finger, but Lucifer quickly got another advantage by grabbing a piano chord and choking him enough to slam a piano piece on his head, which culminated into Lucifer knocking Michael down, until he pulled them both down, and reaching a stalemate where they locked eyes, with Michael still grinning on getting to Lucifer on a personal level, but Michael ended up trapped on a headlock and Lucifer, enraged over his twin trying to take his life, began scarring him from above his left eyebrow to his right nostril to ensure his twin brother can never impersonate him again, with Michael screaming in agony.

Michael then went into Chloe's apartment after his twin came to Chloe to settle their issues which failed and waited for Maze in the dark, using his twin's accent to speak first, but as Mazikeen tried to apologize to him, thinking he's Lucifer, but he then revealed himself from the shadows, stating she still has every right to be upset at him, where Mazikeen threats to cut out his tongue, but Michael reveals his twin is keeping a secret from him, but he won't say it, due to his unreliable reputation, but offers to help the demon uncover it for herself, smiling over having Maze hooked. He planned his next move by tricking Dan into shooting Lucifer to ruin their friendship and create a wedge to his twin's and Chloe's relationship. First, Michael caught one of Lucifer's immediately discarded phones and impersonated Lucifer's voice to have him witness his Devil face. He then appeared in a white garb, lying over being the better twin and his scar caused from Lucifer hating him because he is his polar opposite. He then told him his redemption will come from saving the world by shooting Lucifer, killing the Devil, but this was just to prove that Lucifer's invulnerable around Chloe, damaging their relationship. He then made his eldest brother's son, his nephew, Charlie, ill so Amenadiel could mentally break down so time will freeze and God will finally return. He then kidnapped Chloe to distract Lucifer, while smashing her device to fool him into thinking her targeted murder kidnapped her.

Michael came to speak with Chloe after he kidnapped her, receiving a furious reception, with him assuring her that it was just momentary, as it's a part of his plan, which he revealed to be something epic. He then pried on her over her relationship with his twin, which she took as more manipulation of fear. He then stated his twin isn't the creator of desires and he isn't the root of fears, both just unveil what already exists and now Chloe has a lot of it. He brings up how angels self-actualize and his vulnerability showed his commitment and foreshadows his lack of it, which she refuses to acknowledge as a flaw. He then points out that since Lucifer's a man of honesty, his admitting of his love would be sincere, which she begins to doubt at, at which Michael immediately picks on, and immediately leaves. He then visits Amenadiel over Charlie's illness, which he gets a disdainful reception, but he later picks up on his nephew's cold and apologizes, pointing out his potential mortality. He then reunites with Mazikeen, who intends to carve him out somewhere with her blades, but he anticipated it, and offered to give her an audience with his Father to get her desire; a soul, in exchange for opposing his twin, with his plan nearing fruition.

Michael arrived after his eldest brother finally stopped time with his mental breakdown from his parental anxieties, praising him surpassing his intended outcome and mocked Lucifer's doomed relationship with Chloe, which didn't budge Lucifer, who instead demanded his twin's ultimate plan be revealed, which he refused to give and instead continued taunting Amenadiel's breakdown and it's cause, which caused Lucifer to realize he was the real cause of their nephew's ordeal, which he tried to lie his way out of, but couldn't weasel his way out anymore, and argued over his nephew's mortality dooming his lifespan and Lucifer assured him his end isn't imminent, which ended in Michael being grabbed by the throat, where he insulted both Linda and Charlie and nearly got punched, if not for Maze coming to his aid once more and saw her kick his twin into the bullpen and began fighting Amenadiel, who was enraged over him using his infant son as a pawn for his schemes, where he was amused over him being easier to trick than all of Lucifer's friends, which ended with him loosing his footing and a slam to the chest, but he got back up and nearly punched Amenadiel but was intercepted by Lucifer and slammed into a corner. Amused at his brothers fighting together, he punched both of them in the gut and received Mazikeen's aid again, using one of her blades to distract Lucifer. With Mazikeen eventually incapacitated, he was put into a headlock by his brothers again but, refusing to surrender, he instead unveiled his wings to bring the fight to another level only for their Father to arrive on Earth to halt their conflict, surprised at his plan actually working.
