The Metal Men spy their creator, Doctor William Magnus, passionately kissing one of his model girlfriends. The Metal Men are criticized by their fans for always battling against giant robots. To alter the flavor of their adventures, the Metal Men travel to Central City, to take on some human adversaries. They encounter a horde of motorcycling marauders, terrorizing the city. Before the Metal Men can swing into action, the Flash singlehandedly takes down the entire gang. The Metal Men try their luck in Gotham City, only to have Batman and Robin beat them to the punch, this time, in taking down a group of armed criminals. In Washington, D.C, the Metal Men spy Baroness Paula Von Gunther, and her minions, closing in on Wonder Woman, and her date, Steve Trevor. Without even getting up, or breaking eye contact with Trevor, Wonder Woman deflects the hail of bullets with her bracelets. Wonder Woman then rounds up Von Gunther, and her associates.

Dejected, the Metal Men forego trips to Metropolis, Coast City, and Ivy Town, opting to, instead, just return to headquarters. There they find Magnus still passionately kissing his girlfriend. An armored car races into the Metal Men's compound. Platinum and Iron stop it before it can reach Magnus' laboratory. The driver of the car identifies himself as "Professor Bravo". He is accompanied by a fantastic, plastic humanoid, he calls "Ethy". The strange being collects all the money, that spilled out of the armored car, when it was forcibly stopped. Astonishingly, Professor Bravo drove onto the Metal Men's compound to elude the police. Iron attacks "Ethy", only to discover that the force of his blow has only caused "Ethy", short for Ethylene, to split into multiple plastic figures. One such figure, designated "Sty", short for Styrene, is able to repel Tin's attack by bouncing the other figures into Tin, as well as the other Metal Men.

Professor Bravo arrogantly chastises the Metal Men for not having better knowledge of the properties of plastics. Then, he drives off to commit more robberies. The Metal Men split up, the better to cover the entire city, to thwart Professor Bravo's crime spree. In the Jetaway, Platinum shares a passionate moment with Gold, fueled by her jealousy over Magnus' girlfriends. Iron is the first to re-encounter Professor Bravo. Iron battles against Styrene, but the rubbery plastic man bounces back from every blow. Switching tactics, Iron tries to crush Styrene, but the plastic figure merely stretches out of Iron's grasp, while simultaneously head-butting Iron. Stunned, Iron watches Professor Bravo drive away to his next robbery. Mercury is the next to re-encounter Professor Bravo. Mercury attacks Styrene.

Once again, the force of the Metal Man's blow causes the plastic figure to multiply. Mercury separates into individual globules of Mercury, to attack the plastic men en masse. This time, though, Styrene has spawned "Sil", short for Silicone. At room temperature, Silicone transforms into oil, sweeping Mercury's globules away. Mercury watches helplessly as, once again, professor Bravo gets away. Tin and Nameless re-engage Professor Bravo at his next robbery. Tin punches Styrene, creating another series of plastic men. This time, Tin is up against "Meth", short for Methacrylate. Using Nameless for ammunition, Tin molds himself into a machine gun, but the tin bullets' impacts merely crack "Meth". Professor Bravo, still chastising the Metal Men's dearth of plastics knowledge, escapes again.

Lead transforms himself into a barricade, on the only road leading out of town. Eventually, Professor Bravo comes along. Lead charges, only to trip over a series of plastic men, called "Poly", short for Polyethalene. Lead battles valiantly against the slippery plastic men. Lead is so focused on the combat that he fails to realize that "Poly" is leading him out into the sea. While "Poly" can float on the surface, Lead sinks to the bottom. Gold and Platinum discover the Metal Men regrouped at headquarters, physically, emotionally, and spiritually beaten by their plastic adversaries. Gold and Platinum enter the laboratory complex, where they find Magnus still locked in a passionate kiss with his girlfriend. In the library, Gold and Platinum research the properties of plastics.

In a show of colossal arrogance, Professor Bravo drives onto the Metal Men's compound, believing the police would never look for him at that location. Professor Bravo also doesn't see the Metal Men as a threat to him. At all. Gold orders the Metal Men to hold off the plastic army for a few moments. With Platinum molding herself into a giant ladle, Gold scoops out the molten slag from Magnus' industrial smelter, and pours it over the plastic men. Their relatively low melting point ensures that the plastic army will be completely consumed long before the Metal Men are in danger of melting. Without the protection of his plastic army, Professor Bravo is easily apprehended. Platinum angrily storms into Magnus' laboratory to wrench him away from his girlfriend. At Platinum's touch, the two figures burst into flames. Magnus reveals that he set up the decoy to keep the Metal Men, especially Platinum, from interrupting him, as he worked in his laboratory.
