Doctor William Magnus, along with his famous Metal Men, stop to help a little girl. Platinum retrieves the girl's cat from a tree. Mercury immediately begins quarreling with Platinum. Tin attempts to stop bank robbers, fleeing the scene of their latest heist. Tin is destroyed. Iron subdues the bank robbers. Lead deals with a broken high tension line. Mercury frees a child, trapped inside a bank vault. At a nearby hospital, the Metal Men inspire a girl to walk. Magnus rebuilds Tin. Magnus spurns Platinum's romantic advances. Magnus departs, on a date with a real woman.

Platinum uses Magnus' robot building process to create a robot version of Magnus, one that loves her. The process goes awry however, resulting in a Magnus that, while completely devoted to Platinum, is also reckless in it's regard for humanity. "Magnus" orders the Metal Men to remain in their quarters, while it takes Platinum out on the town. On their date, "Magnus" endangers the lives of several civilians, in two separate incidents. Platinum rejoins the Metal Men, in the ready room, while "Magnus" prepares a surprise for her.

Magnus contacts the Metal Men, wanting to apologize to Platinum, causing confusion among the Metal Men. Before Platinum can explain, "Magnus" enters the room, introducing a new team of Metal Men. "Magnus" abducts Platinum, leaving Sodium to deal with the original Metal Men. Magnus orders Tin to contain Sodium, freeing the other Metal Men to pursue "Magnus". Mercury attacks first, only to be destroyed, while also destroying, Aluminum. Iron attempts to bar "Magnus" from reaching the jet platform, only to be incapacitated by Calcium. Zirconium flashes Lead, blinding him.

"Magnus" reaches, and launches, the jet platform. Gold tries to stop the jet platform, only to be defeated by Barium. Magnus arrives, leading a bomber squadron, but is forced to abort the attack, for fear of detonating Plutonium. Platinum binds "Magnus" to Plutonium, then grabs hold of a nearby rocket. Platinum launches the rocket, with controls on the jet platform. Magnus begs Platinum to unravel herself, but she refuses, knowing she can't take the chance of "Magnus", or Plutonium, escaping. Plutonium explodes, destroying the rocket, and all three robots. The Metal Men ask Magnus to recreate Platinum. Magnus leaves the matter for the readers to decide.
