Origin
Little is known about Merean, save that she had been
Aes Sedai for about 200 years prior to the Aiel War, chose the Blue upon attaining the shawl, and was at some point raised to the position of Mistress of Novices under
Tamra Ospenya. Sometime after entering the Tower she forsook her Oaths to the Tower and took an Oath of fealty to the Dark One, joining the Black Ajah.
Creation
Merean was created by
Robert Jordan for his book series
The Wheel of Time, making her first appearance in the prequel,
New Spring. She made her first appearance in comics in

New Spring
Merean is the Mistress of Novices during
Moiraine Damodred and
Siuan Sanche's time as Novices. She is noted among Novices and Accepted to be very good at her job. After Moiraine and Siuan are raised and leave the Tower, Merean travels to Kandor in search of children who may be the
Dragon Reborn, with a mandate to kill all possible channelers. In the Borderlands she encounters Moiraine and her travelling companion,
al'Lan Mandragoran. She attempts to have both killed, but fails, though she manages to kill some of their companions. She herself is killed by Moiraine.
Powers and Abilities
Merean is a channeler who at one time would have been considered fairly powerful. She has a gift for Healing. As a channeler, her lifespan is greatly expanded compared to regular humans. Though an Aes Sedai, she was released from the Oaths by her Oaths to the Dark One; their effects on her potential longevity are unknown.
