Why is it that Match is being used as a background character to make Utopia feel occupied, while writers continue to write about the same characters over and over again. A "New X-men" book needs to be reopened to elaborate more on background characters, maybe even form a new team only consisting of the students...
Match
Character » Match appears in 555 issues.
Once a student at the Xavier Institute where Match was appointed squad leader of the Paragons. Match retained his powers after M-Day. He is currently enrolled at the Jean Grey School for Higher Learning.
Match needs to be recognized
It's sad that some of the 'background' students from New X-Men started to feature more and more in the later stories... but have never been seen since the title was cancelled. Real shame. Still... I guess if he's not in the spotlight, it also means he doesn't die (like Onyxx). Still, if Bling! and Indra can have more panel-time/screen-time then y'never know... maybe Match will too.
they do really need another New X-Men type book just for these characters though.
that was the plan they had for Legacy, whereas Rogue would lead them, but it doesnt
seem theyre laying it on thick enough.
" they do really need another New X-Men type book just for these characters though. that was the plan they had for Legacy, whereas Rogue would lead them, but it doesnt seem theyre laying it on thick enough. "Legacy, aside from the Necrosha stuff which was heavy on Blindfold and Husk if she counts, seems to be taking one to two characters at a time. Trance held the spotlight for a while before passing it over to Bling, who has given it to Indra now. Not the best way to do it, but certainly not terrible either.
He reminds me of Hotspot
" He reminds me of Hotspot "Yeah, he really does! Maybe that's another reason why he doesn't feature as much? Until someone can figure out a way to make him less like Hotspot & the Human Torch ;)
hmmm. new Fantastic 4?
Rockslide=Thing
Mercury=Mr.Fantastic
Match=Human Torch
Trance,Dust,Loa?=Invisible Woman?
i could see it.
It just feels like the writers now-a-days aren't exploring more on other characters. Maybe they're scared. So much characterization has been made to the main X-Men and not enough characterization on the students that the writers are scared to give them a personality trait that they're not sure of or that is wrong. I don't know, I feel like I'm ranting...
That's why I prefer titles like X-Factor, X-Force & the New Mutants because they're proper team books with a greater focus on the core characters.
Wow, you nailed it. X-Force is primarily my favorite X-title, but I can (keyword) stand Uncanny X-Men if there is a good story. But maybe we need to do something about this. "I HAVE A DREAM, THAT STUDENTS, AND EX-VILLIANS, AND BACKGROUND CHARACTERS COULD BE WRITTEN MORE PRIMARILY THROUGHOUT THE CORE X-TITLES"... I'm workin' on the speech...
" @pixelized said:Agreed +1. =)"Add Loa to the list of characters that need recognition along with Match and more recently, Dust. "Agreed. I'd really like to see Loa become more of a prominent character. "
Match, Hellion, Rockslide & Mercury should move back to NewYork and become The Mutant Fantastic Four.
I don't think Hellion is going anywhere soon; he is too angry after the events of Second Coming.
You can swap him with Anole - Rockslide and Anole
