Honestly? I thought the Ultimates 3 was all right. I couldn't stand however, that almost everyone's look was changed to their 616 look with no explanation. Was just this laziness? Was there ever an official explanation?
Marvel

Currently owned by the Walt Disney Company, Marvel is one of the "Big Two" comic publishers along with DC Comics.
Why did they get all the costumes wrong in Ultimates 3?
It's Loeb. Whose superpower is being a hack writer who somehow keeps getting put to work on good characters. He is to writing what Rob Liefeld is to art.

this...although the art was arguably worse than Liefeld IMO

was that your first time seeing Joe Mad's artwork?

@primepower53: and have you seen any since? like in Avenging Spider-man?
haven't read it. Do you have scans?
@primepower53: he's really known for his Manga type styling...he's done a lot of design work for video games.....he also did a pretty long run on the X-men back in the day which include a lot of the art for Age of Apocalypse

THAT'S an improvement if I ever saw one!

I still loved his work in Ultimates 3 but it wasn't on par with his usual...that was his first time back doing comics in something like 10 years so maybe he was rusty....check out his work in AoA...it's really great plus if you haven't read Age of Apocalypse yet then you definitely need to
I didn't think Joe Mad's art was bad per se' in Ultimates 3, I thought it was hard to follow at times. Of course I was trying to follow a Loeb story so maybe that is part of the confusion.

@danhimself: His artwork on Avenging Spiderman has been excellent but it seems completely moot compared to the magnificence of Leinil Yu's pencils. I wish he was a regular on the series.
The appearances where changed however to market the line clearly. Despite being around for some time, and having quite a bit of buzz, it actually took Ultimates a long time to secure a proper sized readership. The effort in the third was to try and attract readers who had been passing to the line. And...it worked, well. I'm sort of sideswiped that it wouldn't be obvious to current readers given the DC revamp.
