So lately I've been looking at some of the more pre Marvel NOW comics that I could read, ad stumbled upon Ultimate Marvel, a series that Marvel launched about 13 years ago. So I did some research on events like Ultimatum, and it looks like Ultimate Marvel is much more violent (which is awesome), with characters shooting each other etc. So where do I begin if I were to start reading some Ultimate comics, and what do you recommend?

There are a ton of good jumping on points for the Ultimate Universe because Marvel has often relaunched the line whenever something major happened like Ultimatum or Death of Spider-Man or Cataclysm. I personally recommend starting at the beginning because the original stories of the Ultimate Universe are some of the best stories I've ever read. Especially Ultimate Spider-Man.

@arturocalakayvee: So was I right though, is the Ultimate universe more aimed towards big battles and such, if so, I'm totally into it.

Here's a tip- avoid Ultimate X-men and Ultimate Fantastic Four.

Check out The Ultimates, though, it's not horrible.

You should start at the beginning of the Ultimate line and just try reading all the titles, Ultimate X-Men, Spider-Man, FF4, and the Ultimates. They all have their dull moments and most people will tell you to stop reading it all together simply because of Ultimatum but I suggest to keeping reading because that's when things pick up again

Not necessarily. The first three Ultimates volumes are big battles, pretty much as are the events but the regular ongoings are just like regular comics.

If you want to read the first Ultimates story you should get the The Ultimates 1 volumes 1 and 2. It's VERY edgy and dark but it's a great read. From there you should read The Ultimates 2 volumes 1 and 2. That's big action.
