Recently, new art of the new Captain America was released, and he's holding a pistol. It made me think. We all know the Punisher would get punished himself if he had no guns and Nick Fury's got no powers, but should superheroes use guns?

I think not. A superhero shouldn't have to use guns, that's why they're SUPER.

Yup. I dont wanna see Superman with a gun (like when he fought Cyborg Superman after he came back from the dead) But like the Punisher, Cable, Bishop, Union Jack, yeah, those kinda characters can pull it off.

i said vash does and so solid snake and punisher definitely dont have powers but you said most of them have powers... that's just half, not most.

plus i see master chief being a peak human, so he's like captain america. which would mean he doesnt have powers either. or does he do something to show powers? all i ever did with him was run around and shoot guns but maybe he does something else...

youre basing it on whether they can do the same thing that the other person can? that's insane. there are lots of things that regular people can do that superheroes cant. there are a lot things super villains can do that lots of superheroes cant do too.

Titans Tomorow Batman (and other versions) had guns, makes you do a double take.

Anyway, should they? Depends on the hero, you can't make a blanket statement like they all should or shouldn't. Grifter with guns = awesome. Superman with guns, not so much.

Most videogame heroes use guns.....and most wouldn't classify as Superheroes. I'd say MC, maybe Saki and Airan from Sin and Punishment, and Samusa are the only ones that could be classified as super-heroes. Since that what we were yapping about on LP's pics....

If superheroes actually have a use for guns (unlike Spawn in the day) and can make it seem good and well in a story, than yeah, I figure they can have em. But with people like Superman and Thor and whatever, there's not much point when they move faster than bullets anyway.

In the SA DC heroes had a clearly stated no - killing policy and that meant the only major DC character to carry a gun was Adam Strange (an he only used it to stun). Marvel had no such explicit policy, but I don't think any of their major characters carried firearms at that time either. In the very early days, Batman did carry a gun for a short while - Detective Comics #32 -#35.
As for whether they should - I don't think the iconic characters of DC or Marvel (Superman, Spider-man, Batman, Captain America, Wonder Woman etc) should ever carry firearms. They all know how to defeat opponents without resorting to guns. However, carrying a gun is part of what makes characters like Punisher, Vigilante and Nick Fury who they are.

    NOOOOOOOOOOO
Hero: someone who is idealized/admired for their courage, ourstanding achievements.
Superhero: someone who surpasses all status quo expectations of a hero, usually with supernatural abilities.

    That makes alllllll the difference.

And I think it would ruin many super heroes if they suddenly donned arms.

Saying stuff like Superheroes shouldn't have to use guns....that's why they're super is ridiculous.

    1.Bucky doesn't have any powers
2.Bucky doesn't need the gun,he has a shield....did anyone ever stop and think, maybe it's his choice to carry a gun? Maybe he prefers to have gun on him because he's a good marksman.
3.He's a soldier first and a hero second...and what do soldiers carry?

The Comedian is a respectable hero and he uses a gun , so why can't anyone use guns then?

They are good for civilian casualties and hero brutality
