yeah. It'd be good to move on from the popularity of IM to explore the rest of Marvel's catalogue in the cinematic universe. RDJ won't be around forever and it opens up some interesting stories, not to mention it would be somewhat unexpected.

well that depends on the fans really. i mean fans have a huge voice so if rdj dosent come back for a ironman 4 fans wont pay money for a ticket to see the recast they did

Don't kill him off. Keep him out of the suit and working with the Avengers in a smaller capacity.

They aren't going to kill him. They'll just get a new actor after Avengers 3

RDJ is not going anywhere. he can play the role into his 60's. iron man 3 made over a billion. and iron man 3 made iron man 2 look like iron man 1. RDJ has a sweetheart deal too. just wait a decade or so and they will just completely reboot the avengers and rdj can just play howard stark in them :)

Why would/should Marvel kill off Tony Stark? It doesn't seem to me that it advances the story or makes Marvel money. Since Marvel is in the business of making money by telling stories those are going to be the two biggest factors in any decision that Marvel makes.

Yes he is. His contract only covers 2 more movies and he's stated he does not want to play the character for the rest of his life.

He doesn't have to be Iron Man, he could just be Tony Stark. Hell, make him Director of Shield or Defense Secretary like in the comics. He could stick around but in a smaller capacity, while still being important.

They should show Rhodey taking over the Iron man persona if RDJ leaves. It'd be similar to Bucky Barnes, Dick Grayson and Wally West taking the torch from their mentors.

No I cannot but I see no reason to kill off the character. Instead of killing him off you can end it at a trilogy or if you want to keep going you can reduce his role in any number of ways.

I'd prefer to see Stark take a role off-screen when the time comes rather than kill him off.

I'm sick of people making polls like this... People (or at least butthurt fanboys) want Iron Man to die BECAUSE he's so popular these days.

This is just my personal opinion, but no, and that is because I think Iron Man is a cool hero. Once RDJ is no longer willing to portray him, then they should simply retire him from the movies. Just give the characters cameos. Surely they could just CGI in the suit for some necessary scenes?
