power grids do they mean anything

so do power grids that show how strong a character is mean anything in the marvel universe? Like for example its said that spider man can lift 10 tons or sif can lift 30 tons, or are they just ignored? Like how accurately can they represent the strength of various characters?

@rondoudou: Short answer: They mean nothing. Marvel has not been known for it's strong adherence to continuity for quite some time, so really, the limits of a characters strength changes upon the whims of whoever is writing it. The best example of this would be in the old Secret Wars series where Hulk was able to hold up a 150 billion ton mountain. We all know Hulk is strong, but that seemed a little extreme :)
