    NEW AVENGERS #18

    JONATHAN HICKMAN (W) • VALERIO SCHITI (A)

    Cover by DUSTIN WEAVER

    • In all of creation, only one Earth has successfully met and triumphed over each Incursion that has threatened it: the Earth of the heroes of the Great Society!

They aren't even subtle about it...
Hickman if you want to write the JSA go to DC.

You can clearly see a Flash,Green Lantern,Doctor Fate,Superman and Hourman in there.

Totally see it! That said, I'm sure DC has done the same in the past. Sometimes (where art is concerned) it isn't always a case of ripping off but of paying homage to something they liked. Not saying that was the case here.

Its called Squadron Supreme. Its a team that has been around for a very long time and the creators admitted they were intentionally based on the classic Jla line up so you're not giving any news here.

Indeed. I think that's the case at hand but I thought of bringing it up. I hope Hickman gives some credit to the original creators.

DC and Marvel have been ripping each other off since day one. What else is new?

@black_claw: This isn't even a new rip off, the Squadron Supreme has been around since 1971 and they were admittedly and obviously based off DC characters. DC did the same thing with the Extremists a while back so its kind of quid pro quo at this point.

Go check out the Extremists, its a team of villains based on Marvel characters, it was DC's answer to Squadron Supreme which as I've pointed out several times here was intentionally and admittedly based on JLA and created in the 70s. Do New fans not read anything beyond the last ten years? If you did you'd know DC and Marvel have been shamelessly ripping each other off since the 60s, hell the whole reason we got the Fantastic Four and Avengers is because Marvel noticed how well JLA sold.

It's not a rip-off, it's a pastiche. You're supposed to compare Squadron Supreme to the JLA. That's the whole point.

No matter what industry you look at, companies copy one another. Not really a big deal cause like everyone has said, it's nothing new. It's just more annoying for fans with allegiances and fuels the fire of fan wars.

Geez.. What else is new?. They've been doing that for decades. It doesn't seem that they mind these things. The only persons having trouble with these sort of things are the butt hurt fanboys.

There was also a Justice League episode which was based on Marvel's Defenders which featured Aquaman and Dr Fate. But its defiantly not a new thing, hey Marvel even has a mild-manner reporter called Clark Kent, as a shout out to Superman.
