JOE QUESADA! WHY DOES HE STILL HAVE A JOB! ONE MORE DAY WASN'T ENOUGH! This is simply a bad idea. Do something more creative next time and try not to rip off DC. AND FIRE QUESADA!!!!!

Marvel NOW Will Relaunch The Marvel Universe This October

I like the new Thor and Hulk, but I'm on the fence about some of the others (really, Cyclops?). Nick Fury changing race will be particularly interesting to see an explanation for...Whatever the case may be, I think Marvel could use a reboot. It would be great to read new, interesting stories with Marvel's characters. Maybe then they wouldn't feel the need to drop event after event after event like it's a contest or something.
One has to ask though...haven't both Marvel and DC rebooted in the past? Why fear the reboot now?
That is Nick Fury Jr not Nick Fury, the race wasn't changed they just pulled some random black guy out of the either and said he was nick's long lost son and his birth name was nick fury jr
It's not a reboot. They're not taking away the past of the characters "One More Day" style. They're starting fresh. New stories for the new readers, The popularity of the Marvel movies is bringing people into comics and Marvel has to adapt to the new market. Sure we may feel uncomfortable with this relaunch, especially since we just had the Heroic Age a couple of years ago. Marvel Now is still promising. If Marvel can bring in more readers. Expanding he market is also important, not just comforting the many needs of the cry-baby readers Marvel has now. This isn't going to be like New 52, although the intentions are similar. It's a fresh start for the Avengers and the X-Men.

• Avengers - written by Jonathan Hickman, artist unknown – Shipping in December, Hickman picks up the Avengers reins from Bendis has he expands the scope of The Avengers. Hickman is quoted as saying “It’s not six Avengers, It’s 18 or more”. The new title will be biweekly and will be a combination of oneshot stories and longer, “galaxy spanning multi-issue arcs” as they protect the entire universe and become an Avengers for the 21st century.
YES, YES!!! YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!! MWAAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAH
Why do they have to relaunch everything. Marvel has some great titles right now. Marvel is just copying what DC just did.

I used to be all about Marvel, but in the past several years it's become so self-referential, up-its-own-@$$ and preachy I just haven't enjoyed any of their titles for a long, long time. Let's just hope they fix some of the stupider tropes/ideas/paradigms/whatevers that have developed. Such as.... The X-Men are way to ham-fisted with the preachiness. Can we have an X-Men story that's just a fun adventure and not a heavy-handed gay rights metaphor? Less Wolverine. And bring him back to basics: a tough, scrappy, feral, STREET-LEVEL mountain man...NOT the Default Receptacle for whatever 12-year olds think equates to "badass" at that particlar period in time. That means he's not a martial-arts master, realize that unbreakable and undullable claws doesn't mean they can cut through anything, lose the Japanese-samurai-thing, and for God's sake scale down the healing. The whole mutant-thing in general. Mutants should be incredibly RARE, not so common that storylines involving "Mutant Registration" are feasible. Less SHIELD. Way less SHIELD. Make Galactus what he's supposed to be: The Ultimate Threat. Literally incomprehensibly powerful and the ONLY thing that can stop him is the Ultimate Nullifier. (Galactus seems to have been powered down at the same rate Wolverine's been powered up.) There's more, but tired of typing. Just....bring it back to basics Marvel.
This
I hope they don't make fury black a bald. It's nice in the movies and it was okay in the side comics, but I like his hair in the comics. And what the hell is on hulk is that armor overall it doesn't look good but I'm usually wrong on this sort of thing so fingers crossed.
After AvX is over im done with Marvel. Like yea its cool what they are doing with the Avengers lineups but why the hell are they going to F up the X-Mens lineup? like y are they bringing the past 5 X-Men to the future what the hell is going to happen to the present X-MEN? Which makes me fear the outcome of Avengers vs X-men 12, what are they just going to kill all the X-Men!?
Like this is the best X-Men lineup they have ever had right now. I enjoy seeing Magneto, Emma, Namor, Danger, Frenzy, & Magik as X-Men. Everyone's involved and present expect for Nightcrawler, Jubilee, and Jean Grey which isnt bad.
Someone help me out - I am new to comics. Last read in 86-89. If I am walking into a comic shop and want to buy "X-Men" and "Avengers"... What titles do I pick up to follow the storyline? Currently on the shelf in my LCS: Astonishing X-Men, X-Men, X-Factor, Uncanny X-Force, Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine & the X-Men, X-Men Legacy, Age of Apocalypse, Generation Hope, New Mutants Avengers, Secret Avengers, Avengers Academy, New Avengers So what the heck do I read? Also, with these new Marvel Now titles coming out, will the current titles still be in production? Or will it simply continue with the books mentioned above and then add 3 or so more? Anyone who can help enlighten me I'd appreciate it. If its too complicated for a post my email is ariscotle@mac.com Thanks all
please don't let this be like the ultimate universe or like any of the dc relaunch's (except new 52 maybe).Someone please explain me how everybody changes without this being a reboot.
@KainScion: The real problem with this is that as sales continue to drop Marvel/DC fans are only buying core titles and don't seem to care that all Marvel is doing is shuffling the same old deck.Multiple titles of 4-5 iconic teams is the only thing keeping the boat afloat at this point because this is all Marvel fans will buy.
OH yeah, Thor has swords on his back, Didn't notice it. Not a great costume, but better than it was.
Because NO ONE likes continuity or stability. Right? We just want explosions and sex, in color, on paper. That's what we're paying for, right? We don't ACTUALLY want to continue the same stuff and find out what happens in the universe with original stories, and not just a copy of the New 52 in Marvel form, riiiight?
GTFO Marvel, you're worse than DC.
Avengers by hickman almost makes this okay but other than that it's NOT OKAY! NOT GOD DAMN OKAY! What about remenders secret avengers? Are they really renumbering everything too? what about spidey? what about uncanny x-men? like.. that just rebooted.. and if they ever decided to renumber everything would be f''''''ed. fffffffffffffffffff
if marvel decides to give kitty pryde the 'uncle ben' treatment, im going very angry and im not a happy camper when i am angry. i get so upset, the hulk cowers from me.

@KainScion: They're owned by Disney and Avengers is one of the highest grossing films of all time. How can they possibly go bankrupt?
you dont know jack. disney acquired marvel ENTERTAINMENT. not COMICS. and that is what marvel PRIMARLY IS. a comic book company. they cant survive on movie, tv show money alone.
I don't know jack, eh? Check it, son: Marvel Comics is a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, therefore Disney owns Marvel Comics as well. (source: http://www.secinfo.com/d122g8.ted.c.htm ) They make more money on merchandise sales and advertising from movies and TV shows than on their comics. In fact, the sales and licensing of their properties to movie studios is what kept them from going bankrupt in the first place. Do a little research before making hasty, fanboyish statements.
I for one am happy to see them doing some house cleaning. First off lets get back to 1 Hulk (what are we at 6 now). The issues and population of mutants just needs a freaking reset. Last lets get some older less used people in here. Loved the runaways, Loved the New Warriors (original crew). And this I will ask forever, WHERE IS DARK HAWK
@Emperormeister734:
Not to mention to re-introduce characters we forgot about from a long time ago.It might be something to forwards too.(Like organizing your file drawer of papers.)
Has no one yet noticed that Marvel is changing Nick Fury into the Samuel L. version? If this had happened the other way around people would have been crying foul.
That Cyclops is ugly. If this messes with Emma Frost. I wont be buying Marvel comics for s good long while.
Looks as if Marvel is pulling a massive OMD for their entire universe.
@Emperormeister734: id rarther some stay dead im sick of them getting killed then coming back every big event someone dies marvel says something like 'things will ever be the same' or 'who will die' only to bring them back all over again.

OH yeah, Thor has swords on his back, Didn't notice it. Not a great costume, but better than it was.
Good grief. Swords-on-backs is stupid. Kind of a pet-peeve of mine.
But...Thor. There's another one. Fix Thor.
Reboot the snot out of him, and make him more like...well...like Thor.
Appearance:
- Red hair. And a little bit older-looking (late 30's-40-ish). Beard optional, but he's gotta have the red hair.
- Metal gloves - cuz a Mjolnir needs a Jarngrieper.
- Meginjarder the belt of strength goes without saying. But I said it anyway.
- Lose the torso-circles. I love Jack Kirby's work, but nobody's perfect and he dropped the ball with "Thor"'s costume.
Attitude/Personality:
- Thor's a Viking god and while he's not stupid (far from it), he still has a simple personality. He likes fighting, drinking, and wenching. He's very similar to King Robert from Game of Thrones...in fact, the more I think about it, the more I realize how similar the 2 characters are, the only difference being that in GoT, Robert was in a place where he was more than a little beaten down by the burden of rule and somewhat broken by tragedy...but subtract those elements and they'd basically have the same personality.
- The whole thing about Odin banishing Thor to teach Thor "humility" is completely at odds with everything the Norse Gods and the Viking ethos are about. "Humility" is not something the Viking Gods would regard as a virtue. At all. Read the Eddas or the Icelandic Sagas.
Other things about Thor that Marvel needs to fix:
- Loki is Odin's blood-brother, not Thor's step-brother.
- Loki shouldn't even be a bad guy. In the myths, there's a few stories where he's the bad guy, but there's lots more stories where he's Thor's adventuring buddy. He's the quick-witted nimble brains to Thor's hammer-smashing brawn. (Loki's the one who should be blond and beautiful, btw..that's how he's described in the myths.)
- Odin is not a benevolent father-figure. He's not evil, but he is the God of War. He should be much more unfathomable, mercurial, and effing scary.
