How I would Reboot Marvel

Posted by ComicFan_13 (24 posts) - 1 year, 7 months ago - Show Bio

Since DC's relaunch has been going so well with sales and reviews, many comic book related websites here have been commenting about should Marvel reboot there comics and start fresh. While I preferred Marvel over DC, I'm very interested in picking up many of the titles (Such as Justice League, Justice League Dark, Batman, Birds of Prey, Red Hood and the Outlaws).
But beyond the point, while I like Marvel, I think they'll be at the point where they will lose readers over the over used Events. Seriously! There's like 4 Marvel events each month!
I've constructed what I would do with Marvel if I were to reboot the series.
First off:
FIRE JOE QUESADA!
I feel were at the point where Joe should be fired from Marvel. I mean it feels a little bit ridiculous when the current Editor In Chief feels in less control of Marvel as he is!
Second:
Remove Bendis from Avengers and New Avengers
I neither hate or like Bendis's writing. I enjoyed what I've read from Ultimate Spider-Man. When I picked up the trade from Dark Avengers, I felt his dialog felt a little bit awkward.
I must say, I love the Idea of a Dark Avengers team. Bendis's writing REALLY seems wordy, and almost 75% of his dialog seems awkward. So, I would take him off from Avengers and New Avengers. I feel when he goes on a title, he never leaves the title, with a few exceptions.
Third:
Limit the Events:
I mean Jesus!  How many events come out from this company!? It seems there's not 1 month without an event coming out! I mean we have Fear Itself, Spider-Island, Schism, Children's Crusade, (Well technically its not really a "big event".) And then there's gonna be more! MY GOD!
Forth:
How to Start the New Reboot:
I would "not surprisingly" use a event involving the Scarlet Witch, and many powerful Marvel Characters. I would have the Avengers, X-Men, Fantastic Four, New Avengers, and yada yada yada. I don't know what the actual story would be, but I do know the end. I would have the Scarlet Witch grant everyone one wish by everyone. Everyone gives out there wish, and then Scarlet Witch gives out her wish, Kind of like how House of M and Flashpoint are. She would restart most of the Marvel universe when they were back in the old days of Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, and Steve Ditko. I would modernize there stories, rather than get rid of them.

Five:
The Titles:
The titles would be:

Avengers: Written by Me
The Amazing Spider-Man: Also Written by Me
Fantastic 4
X-Men
X-Force
Captain America
The Invincible Iron-Man
Strange Tails
The Incredible Hulk
The Mighty Thor
Heroes for Hire
Wolverine
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Spider-Woman
Moon Knight
Punisher
the list goes on and on.

For the Avengers: I would have them be independent, with the start of the lineup be Iron-Man, Thor, Hulk, Wasp, Ant-Man/Giant-Man, and Nick Fury. Other members that would join would be Captain America, Hawkeye, Mockingbird, Black Panther, Black Widow, Spider-Woman, Ms. Marvel, and Tigra. I would start with HYDRA as the villains.
For Spider-Man: I would release a "Amazing Fantasy's" issue, where Spider-Man was originally first appeared. Spider-Man would go back to High School, then go to College, while fighting modern versions of villains.
For Fantastic Four: I would make them more crazy looking and more crazy with the powers. One difference would be the thing. He's not really a thing, he's more of a Rock-Man really. So with the thing, I would make him super strong, but now his body is now covered in huge scarce all over his body.
For X-Men: I would start up with the original line-up from there first appearances, with there costumes in a modern design like in First Class. I would also in like issue 50 where the X-Men has slightly grown, I would have an X-Men/Avengers cross over.
I'm only going to talk about 1 more.
For Heroes For Hire: I would have the team consist of Luke Cage as there leader, with Jessica Jones, who is a senior in Midtown, Black Cat, Firestar, Iron Fist.

This was long...
What should I discuss on my next talk?
Oh well, comment and ask me what you think.

It's hard to reboot Marvel, They've came so far with all their storylines since 2006-2007

DC reboots all the time so no surprise, and their new reboot they're doing is as of current is geared towards new comic book readers who haven't been following their past work.

Love this past. I agree with everything. especially your ideas for Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men. I would also have done an Uncanny X-Force though. Great post!

Well, there are parts I agree with and parts I don't agree with.

I agree with taking Bendis off of Avengers and New Avengers. His dialogue works best in his creator owned work and ultimate spider-man. The thing is, his writing doesn't reflect how real people talk, with all the repetition and quips and the tremendous amounts of snark, he wishes people would talk like that, just like Joss Whedon, which is why I can't stand Buffy or Angel anymore.

I wouldn't put Peter back in high school. Its been done before dozens of times. I would maybe put him in college, there aren't a lot of collegiate super-heroes, they're either teenagers or their 30.

I agree with limiting events, there are too many of them happening at once, its confusing.

Firing Joe Q, I'm not a fan of his, but it seems kind of wrong to want someone to lose their job when the entire country is at 9% unemployment.

The Problem with the X men is that there are too many of them. No one is going to buy 10 x men books. If it were up to me, I would have it so there were no more than 10 people on the team.

I dont agree with making the thing be covered in scar tissue. Ben has a rough time as it is. I think I would have Sue lead the FF and have her marry Ben instead of Reed.

@ComicFan_13: I like these ideas, Marvel has grown to massive especially teams like the X-Men and the Avengers, the only problem is if you rebooted the X-Men like that, there would ample amount of fan backlash for unaccounted characters like Storm and Wolverine...they would have to wait 75 issues for them to appear??

The best hope would be another alternate universe similar to the Ultimate but less disparate....then, if the universe is successful just have some event wipe out 616
