You may recall that back in 2009 through 2010, Edgar Wright took up posting a photo a day on his website, and among the images on his daily photoblog he would tease Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. It’s possible he’s started up the habit again for Ant-Man. Yesterday, Wright posted an image from the animated series Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes episode “To Steal an Ant-Man” in which Scott Lang swipes the original Ant-Man equipment from inventor Hank Pym, and uses it to commit crimes. While there’s been a persistent assumption that Pym would be the lead character in Ant-Man since he’s the original superhero, he’s also kind of the worst (at least in the comics). Additionally, when Paul Rudd signed on to play the role, Marvel’s official announcement didn’t specify his non-costumed alter-ego.

With this new image, signs are leaning heavily towards Lang being the protagonist. All the way back in 2006, Wright told SHH about his idea for the film:

Is to have a film that basically is about Henry Pym and Scott Lang, so you actually do a prologue where you see Pym as Ant-Man in action in the 60′s, in sort of “Tales to Astonish” mode basically, and then the contemporary, sort of flash-forward, is Scott Lang’s story, and how he comes to acquire the suit, how he crosses paths with Henry Pym, and then, in an interesting sort of Machiavellian way, teams up with him.

Obviously, a lot has changed since then in terms of how the Marvel Universe has been crafted. The current plot could be incredibly different, but the larger point is that Scott Lang isn’t some new part of Wright’s thinking. As for the “how he comes to acquire the suit”, perhaps this is part of the “heist film” aspect Kevin Feige mentioned to IGN.

Hardly confirmation. That said, I'm not against this because it wouldn't tie Pym to one moniker and my favorite concept of Pym is "he's the guy who invents superheroes."

Merrrrrrrr....not sure how I feel if Pym wasn't the first big screen MCU Ant-Man.

So Pym isn't Ant Man and he doesn't invent Ultron?

theres one theory of ironman creating ultron by accident hence the automatic armors in im3. and a theory i have is maybe ultron could be a creation of thanos. marvel did say thanos is the puppet master in all these films so

At this point the Ant-Man could Eric O'Grady and I could care less.

This is definitely not one of my favorite changes from the comics.

I really like all three Ant-Men for different reasons. I don't know why they wouldn't go with Pym, but I'm fine with Scott Lang.

Tis a shame, Pym aint getting no love in the MArvel CinematicVerse.

Makes sense though, he is sadly infamous for one single panel that could have been erased.

@yung_ancient_one: I'm hoping if they're going with the "Scott Lang stealing the suit story", that Hank can appear as one of his other identities, along with Wasp. Though if Edgar Wright is talking about Hank being in the 60s, it seems a little unlikely. :/

@v_scarlotte_rose: Yeah that is a great idea actually. I still would like Pym to get credit for making Ultron but... screw it. I welcome change. Pym can come out in the 60's with me. I view this CinematicVerse as a alternate universe.

I know. I was just being silly. Making fun of how whenever something is altered in the X-Men films or Spider-man or something people always say "give the rights back to Marvel".

The only reason I want to see this is for Pym and Wasp if its Lang I might skip this

I like Scott Lang, but I'm gonna be real bummed if they go with him.
