This Friday, on CLOAK & DAGGER...

We had to make way for the HULK first (as you must, unless you want to get squished like the puny human you are) but there are actually a lot of other Marvel titles being floated around for TV. The most relevant one at the moment is CLOAK & DAGGER which, by THR’s reckoning, is being developed as a TV show for ABC Family.  I honestly never got into the adventures of this odd couple, but a lot of artists I worked with just love them, so go figure. I don’t know if there’s enough to their premise to make them stand alone outside the Marvel universe. Reportedly, Jeph Loeb is meeting with writers, right now, who’re going to make some very compelling cases as to how these spooky kids can stand on their own.

But it doesn’t end there.  Apparently, Marvel TV delivered a presentation of possible titles to Disney in the spring which are now gaining some headway.   The list included…

Some quick comments - - == TEASER ==

 • I don’t know if the inclusion of the Red Hood with Moon Knight is a typo. I suppose Marc Spector could be teaming up with Jason Todd, but the prospect seems unlikely.
 • AGENTS OF ATLAS, ALTER EGO seems to be a riff on ALIAS.   The plot description goes like this “private investigator Jessica Jones takes on cases involving superhumans.” I’m sure they had to change the name on account of that Jennifer Garner show, although I’ll be curious if this means she’ll be teaming up with 3D Man and the Uranian.
 • PUNISHER could easily work as TV show, but only if it were a no-holds-barred TV-MA cable program (as the article mentions.) EnnisMAX run basically read like a HBO show.
 • HEROES FOR HIRE, DAUGHTERS OF THE DRAGON and KA-ZAR sound like they’d be the easiest ones to turn into TV shows, especially if the latter is modeled (as the plot description suggests) after the Waid/Kubert run from the late 90s that put the jungle man in New York’s concrete jungle.

What ever happened to their movie idea? lol

Yay, Moon Knight!!

#3 Posted by Kid_Zombie (824 posts) - - Show Bio

Heroes for hire!
I hope these shows are still in the movie continuity and not separate entity altogether.

It could work.

Punisher and Disney.  Two things that absolutely should not go together.  With that said, I freakin' love Cloak and Dagger.  Maybe a MVC3 appearance?

I LOVE Cloak and Dagger
this is good news!!!!
but, is it live action or animated?
and will it be toned down for an ABCFamily audience?
C&D has always been a little dark: a little more about the harsher side of being a teen superhero
I mean, they're runaways, afterall
very very interesting news.....

heroes for hire FTW
#8 Posted by Bestostero (5618 posts) - - Show Bio

Heroes for Hire would be awesome, Cloak and Dagger too.

Please no Punisher, he had his crumby movies, lets move on.

OH!  Moon Knight!  AWESOME!
#10 Posted by Sir Duke (116 posts) - - Show Bio

Eh, I'm dubious of live action superhero shows.  They almost never have the special effects budget to do the powers and big battle justice.

#11 Posted by darkcloakx (788 posts) - - Show Bio

i will watch:
heroes for hire & cloak & dagger  and alter ego to learn more about them  especially cloak & dagger  i never could find a good comicbook about them.
i will check out the the other shows as well  except punisher show i hate him.

#12 Posted by BraveToaster (26 posts) - - Show Bio

They're going to screw this up.

#13 Posted by ckal (1097 posts) - - Show Bio

I don't want a Heroes for Hire TV series if that means no Iron Fist movie. Same thing goes for the Hulk.

#14 Posted by tonis (6202 posts) - - Show Bio

wow very cool news Tom. I'm one of those art lovers who was scooping up all things Dagger long long ago. I will love to see this in motion.

Likewise on Moon Knight and the Eternals.

i quote every single word :) i'm a big fan of Cloak and Dagger too.
I hope it will be a live action tv show; anyway i don't think that C&D fit very well with the ABCFamily roster:  http://abcfamily.go.com/shows
They have many obscure enemies: Nightmare, drug-dealers, Silvermane, Mr. Jip...

I don't like Marvel that much, but I sure do love Cloak & Dagger.  I'll look out for it.

yeah, it doesn't seem famliy friendly
but I'm stoked it's even going to get made

I can't wait to hear and see more about this!!!!!!!!!

I think Ka-Zar would be a mash of Hercules the tv show and any pre-historic show like Land of the Lost
#20 Posted by Decept-O (7274 posts) - - Show Bio

Any of these would be welcome but I'm curious if they are really going to try The Eternals for TV.  I have high doubts about that prospect due to the many characters and FX required.

Cloak and Dagger would actually work well as would Heroes for Hire.

Just wish Moon Knight had some slight revisions and got optioned for a full release movie instead of a TV show.
#21 Posted by Amegashita (3601 posts) - - Show Bio
@Shadowdoggy:  Still not a replacement for that movie I was hoping for, but I'll take it.
#22 Posted by shawn87 (2095 posts) - - Show Bio

i wouldnt mind seeing a Cloak & Dagger show..Heroes For Hire would be easy...i could see them messing up Moon Knight for some reason...i doubt Ka-Zar would go past one season

#23 Posted by Namor1987 (1881 posts) - - Show Bio

If Moon Knight & The Red Hood were to do a crossover that would be rated hire than MA

#24 Posted by ArtisticNeedham (2233 posts) - - Show Bio

I can see them doing KAZAR, the movie would be like Tarzan mixed with Jurassic Park.

#25 Posted by greenenvy (634 posts) - - Show Bio

This out of the blue unusual choice.

#26 Posted by antiterra (168 posts) - - Show Bio

Normally, I'd be very excited at the prospect of a Cloak and Dagger show (though I'd probably prefer a good movie), but, like others have pointed out, aren't they a little dark for ABC Family? And if they intend to whitewash their history, why even bother in the first place?

Wait and see, I guess.

#27 Posted by Shadowdoggy (3815 posts) - - Show Bio
@Amegashita:
agreed
and I think it would be an obvious choice for an animated series
being that C and D both have such stunning visuals when they use their powers
but oh well, I'll take what I can get!

Yes, definetely not family friendly if the TV Show is based on Strange Tales Vol. 2
or their mini-series and Vol.1.
The best way to exploit C&D is to make a rated R (or PG, i'm not from U.S.A., so i'm not so sure about your rating sistem) tv show..i know that it could sound silly considering that C&D are 16/17 years old...but in their first appearences they killed their torturers, they almost killed Silvio Manfredi and they have also a conflictual relationship with religion (Mantlo did an amazing work on these two characters and their supporting cast, for example: i'm not so sure that the thoughts of Father Delgado were so pure. his morbidity about Dagger is suspicious) and cops.

Unless as Antiterra said, they want to whitewash their history. but if they wanna rewrite it..why don't they make a Power Pack TV-show? this will be perfect for ABCFamily. ah but they have already  something similar: No Ordinary Family http://www.imdb.it/title/tt1591493/

@Shadowdoggy:   Hmm... A cartoon, huh?  I'll need to put that idea of mine into the back of my head.
#30 Posted by LordX1095 (28 posts) - - Show Bio

ABC can do "dark" shows... Lost was on ABC if you havn't forgotten and that wasn't exactly "Family Friendly" most of the time. Anyways, as far as the shows go...

Cloak & Dagger - could be interesting, but for ABC Family they would indeed have to make it less dark.
Ka-Zar - don't really care about, but as some have said a mix of Tarzan & Land of the Lost would work here.
Punisher - Would REALLY like to see this. Castle could work on the small screen, maybe as a Primetime ABC Action-Drama. (Though personally, now that Marvel has his rights back I would rather see him show up in the marvel movie universe somehow).
Heroes for Hire - would be awesome, but it would have to star Luke Cage & Iron Fist to be truely epic.
Moon Knight, The Red Hood - The way the description was written, it seems like "The Red Hood" refers to The Hood (Parker R.). Remember folks, he tried to be a good guy before he went to the dark side

Please please please let them make Alter Ego. A Jessica Jones tv show would be great, the swearing might need to go but fuck it, stick it on HBO, just get it made!

#32 Posted by ReverseNegative (2729 posts) - - Show Bio

DAMN! Disney and Moon Knight are 2 words that should NEVER be in the same goddamn country.

#33 Posted by Shadowdoggy (3815 posts) - - Show Bio
@Amegashita:
it would be brilliant if it ever happened
I imagine something  that looks like Spawn (the HBO animated series) but with a beautiful dancing Tandy Bowen and Marvel villains
#34 Posted by Meteorite (3351 posts) - - Show Bio

The characters of Cloak and Dagger are interesting and good characters, but their supporting cast are not.

#35 Posted by Grouchy224 (25 posts) - - Show Bio

Good deal! TV Shows are always a good idea to introduce lesser-known characters instead of big-budget movies. Also, Punisher on a channel like FX or HBO would be a great idea!

#36 Posted by Shadowdoggy (3815 posts) - - Show Bio
@Meteorite:
agreed
their enemies aren't so great
but they can hook up with Daredevil, Moon Knight, Luke Cage, all the NY types

Love Cloak & Dagger

OMFG! I love Cloak and Dagger! <3

Best idea ever :D

#39 Posted by ComicCrazy (1537 posts) - - Show Bio

Moon Knight and Heroes for Hire could be good....but they could still make a better tv show. What about a really good Fantastic Four tv show that would be cool.
#40 Posted by Dark Cell (447 posts) - - Show Bio

I fail to see Disney making a good Moon Knight or Punisher adaptation

#41 Posted by xscarletkittie (594 posts) - - Show Bio

A Cloak & Dagger show could be interesting, though I think it would do well as a movie instead of a show.  Now Atlas, that's what I'm hoping for. It's a bit of a surprise to see it being considered but I think it could be a very good TV show if they handled it correctly. The comics are awesome... too bad Marvel had to cancel the series again.

just because disney owns marvel doesnt mean theyre going to church up all of marvels characters on the screen. i think its just a money thing. they know marvel knows what theyre doing. most of the time.
#45 Posted by Bruce Vain (1869 posts) - - Show Bio

Reports are that Punisher is really being eyed on.

I've always said that Punisher should have his own series. But I think it would be better in animated form & on HBO or Showtime. Similar to how Spawn was done.

I think it should be Ray Stevenson, Michael Irondside or Tom Jane to do the voice for Frank.
#46 Posted by The Velvet Rabbit (262 posts) - - Show Bio

Cloak & Dagger, Heroes For Hire, and Daughters of the Dragon definitely :)

they all sound really REALLY good, and I know some people that would absolutely die for a HBO Spawn-style 'Punisher' cartoon

but that said, 'odd couple' is right, and a series this dark would only get the 'sterile treatment' at ABC Fam'

#47 Posted by NightFang (9868 posts) - - Show Bio

Interesting.

#48 Posted by DavidRose (51 posts) - - Show Bio

All else aside here, Incredible Hulk and/or Cloak & Dagger, being turned into a television series would be great. I'd watch. And I think it would get a lot of people to want to read comics.
