Wishing to escape the Realm of the Dead, a legendary Kree warrior named Mar-Vell sought out the power required to achieve this near-impossible feat, and when all hope seemed lost the enigmatic power of Captain Universe descended into the Realm and merged with Mar-Vell. With that the two became one, their individual lives were now just memories stored in the consciousness of an entirely new being, an immortal entity called Marvel Universe, more or less to embody what the Mar-Vell hero means to comics.It is noteworthy that at the end of the Earth X trilogy, in the "Paradise X" installment, a "superhero" story based in concepts of life and death, that Mar-Vell, Captain Marvel, remained alive after defeating then restoring death itself. Oddly, in the story, when asked where he is going after the story climaxes, the character simply said "Someplace better", leaving it up to reader interpretation. Mar-Vell had been reborn into the physical realm of the living.
Alex Ross is a known fan of Captain Marvel in all of it's incarnations.
Power
As an abstract entity it power were quite beyond any comprehension existing as the fragments of the consciousness of Mar- Vell and the previous user of the Enigma Force. It comprehension of reality was beyond the scope of any living and death being making it totally superior and indestructible. It body combine the Primordial Force (which is wield by the Elders of the Universe), the Enigma Force the Nega-Bands, the Mandarin's Rings and untold amount of energy from the Cosmic Cube. Through the technology of the High Evolutionary and it own powers it could create a physical being out the souls of the death and give them power. It however it did fear the Excalibur for it was beyond even it grasp.
