It's been some time since we had that 'shocking' news that Disney was buying Marvel for 4 billion dollars.  Since that moment back on August 31, there hasn't been too much regarding the sale and transfer of ownership.  Fans are still a little fearful for what this deal will mean for their favorite characters.  There has been reassurance that we will not see any major changes or Disney-fication of the more violent heroes.

According to Yahoo! Finance, Marvel Entertainment Inc. has stated that it will hold a special shareholders meeting in New York on December 31 to allow a vote on the Walt Disney Co.'s takeover.  Stockholders that have been on record since November 23 will be allowed to vote at the meeting.  If the shareholders approve the deal, it will be close on December 31.

What will happen if the shareholders don't vote for the deal?  I'm sure that will just put a slight delay on the process.  From everything I've read, this deal will benefit everyone involved.  Disney is a massive powerhouse of a company with deep resources.  In my opinion, I don't feel there's anything to fear.  I believe this will only help to bring us even more Marvel products (and not just in terms of comic books).  We'll have to stay tuned to see how the vote turns out.

@Namor1987: Why would they take it off Disney XD.

I'm going to be calling Nicktoons & Disney XD the New Cartoon Network, because I used to watch Cartoon Network all the time but now I only watch Nick and XD. The only cartoon I like from CN is Ben10 and that's only because I hope they de-age him somehow to when I use to like him.

@goldenkey: Yes, Disney still owns Miramax minus two jews in the Weinstein brothers.

If you ever get a chance, you should read Jack Kirby's biography (King of Comics). Not only is it filled with great little stories like a guy claiming to be a neo-nazi who called Kirby from the lobby and challenged him to a fist fight for Captain America (and Kirby rolled up his sleeve and went looking for him)...but also it really did show that y'know artists and writers didn't intend to go into comics to remain poor for the sake of their readership.

Two things will be apparent in Disney's takeover of Marvel:

$0.01 Disney does not plan on making Marvel more affordable: Sorry suckas. Forget about comics getting any cheaper cause its not going to happen. Disney came to reap the benefits not solve your problems. That's why the brand isn't going anywhere. If you've noticed even graphic novels are getting pricey. Not to mention re-packaging of Ominbus. Smartly, it appears more and more back issues will be available to download off itunes.

$0.02 Inevitable push for a Marvel cartoon channel. I can't see why they wouldn't with more and more cartoons revolving around their characters.

No one should fret over Marvel's characters...if any thing Disney is most likely going to buy back those rights to say, the X-men, DD, Ghost Rider, and maybe Spider-man?

Dude, Disney own's Disney XD, hint the name, but yeah I would like a third season of Spider-Man and maybe a new Iron Man show, I watched the last episode of the one on NickToons and all I liked was the War Machine armor, but I hate the show now.

I think you are going to see more of the new cartoons they develop end up on Nicktoons and Disney XD, because they are not on the basic cable systems and since Disney owns those channels....well i am sure you and put two and two together.

I doubt you would have a Marvel Channel for at least a decade. There just is not enough cartoons and programming to have a Marvel Channel....for now.

@Dr. Detfink: Disney already stated that they will not buy any "in development" movies at other companies, hence why FOX panicked and announced more x-men, silver surfer, a remake of fantastic four and daredevil, so they can keep the rights. But Disney is buying the spider-man tv rights from sony.

i still think that disney will eventually start drawing some lines for marvel. Things like the Max line.
all it takes is for one stoopid parent to catch their kid (who the parent probably usually doesnt pay attention to) reading something a little risque. Then whe have the Parents Against-Whatever yelling at Disney to do something and Disney caves cuz their the "happiest place on earth no drama please". I mean, any group that complains enough to Disney gets what they want. Thats why Disney sold Dogma.
i dont think they intend to mak eany changes, but eventually, with this being so high Profile, it will.

and heres a thought: what kind of say does marvel have over hiring future Presidents/editor-in-chief's? Do they have a say at all? Who's to say they wont hire on some happy-go-lucky Disney way type?

Im a little bias against Disney owning Marvel. Thought it might be beneficial to Marvel to have that kind of financial backing. Warner Bros has plenty of money thats why all of DC's animated movies and animated tv series rock.

They aren't gonna change anything. Disney's not a stupid company. Why buy a product then drive customers away?

As for the "Super hero squad" show, that was Marvel's doing, not Disney. (I only say that because some people say that was Disney's fault.)

Superhero Squad though is something that I think Disney would want Marvel to do. I think you are going to see more kid friendly things like that from Marvel/Disney in the years to come.

Marvel will probably have a lot of say in their EIC but if it is controversial guy/gal then they will probably have to run it by Disney.

Oh iE, did you have to re-open this wound again?  Personally, I don't give a 4-letter-word about the take-over (I don't think it'll make any difference), but the senseless bickering & b!tch!nd had died down... now it's flared up again like an old STD-inflicted rash ;p
