The Silver Surfer soars through space. His senses take in the wonders of the universe. Unexpectedly, the Silver Surfer encounters a warp in space, surrounded by three beautiful women. The Silver Surfer refuses their invitation to enter the warp. Upon his refusal, the three sirens reveal themselves to be demons. The Silver Surfer attacks the demons. In Hell, Mephisto takes umbrage at failing to entice the Silver Surfer into his realm. Mephisto longs for the day when the Silver Surfer's soul will belong to him. The Silver Surfer takes note of the presence of Nova, current herald of Galactus. The Silver Surfer meets with Nova. The Silver Surfer, and Nova, share their experiences.
Nova challenges the Silver Surfer to a race. The Silver Surfer lets Nova win. Nova finds a suitable planet for Galactus to consume. The Silver Surfer is gratified that Nova does not select it, for Galactus, as the planet harbors signs of life. Nova encounters Mephisto's warp in space, this time surrounded by three handsome men. Nova enters the warp, and becomes the pawn of Mephisto. Mephisto instills in Nova an undying love for Galacatus, then stands back to observe how events play out. Nova returns to Galactus to profess her love. Galactus has no use for emotions, consumed as he is by his all-encompassing hunger.
To earn his love, Nova leads Galactus to world after world, to appease his hunger. Only now, Nova does not lead Galactus away from inhabited worlds. The first world she leads Galactus to is teeming with life. The inhabitants mount a desperate attack against the world devourer, to no avail. The planet destroyed, still Galactus hungers, charging Nova with seeking out another world to feed him. The Silver Surfer encounters a rag tag fleet fleeing one such world. The Silver Surfer learns that Nova is leading Galactus to inhabited worlds. Upon seeing Nova's flare, over one such world, the Silver Surfer goes to confront Nova.
After pleading with her to end the madness, the Silver Surfer reluctantly engages Nova in combat. After an epic confrontation, their battle is abruptly ended by Galactus, who strikes them both down. Galactus steals away their cosmic powers, marooning the Silver Surfer, and Nova, upon the planet. Mephisto appears before the Silver Surfer. In return for the Silver Surfer's immortal soul, Mephisto offers to restore their powers, so that they might stop Galactus from feasting on inhabited worlds. The Silver Surfer refuses, attacking Mephisto. The Silver Surfer learns he is no match for Mephisto. To save untold billions of lives, the Silver Surfer agrees to Mephisto's terms.
Mephisto draws the Silver Surfer into Hell. Freed from Mephisto's spell, Nova signals for Galactus. Mephisto torments the Silver Surfer. Mephisto breaks the covenant with the Silver Surfer by not honoring his word. The realm of Mephisto comes under attack. Galactus, led by Nova, has come for the Silver Surfer. Mephisto battles Galactus. A battle of literal universe shaking proportions ensues. When it becomes clear that the two titans are too evenly matched in power, Galactus switches tactics, and begins to devour Mephisto's realm. Mephisto relents, and cedes all claims on the Silver Surfer, and Nova. Mephisto tries to save face in the wake of his defeat. The Silver Surfer offers amity to Galactus. The concept has no place in Galactus' world. The Silver Surfer is sent on his way, to once more soar through space, free.
