We have Ant-Man and Doctor Strange confirmed, with Avengers 3 all but confirmed, so how many films does that leave?

    How many should they have?

Should they focus on new franchises, or continue with sequels?

What characters should they bring in?

What story arcs would fit in?

Agent Coulson: middle aged, agent of SHIELD with a receding hairline that although no one cares about him...is still shoved in our faces.

Nick Fury: Snakes on a Hellicarrier

Captain America 3: There aren't any good villains left so Red Skull will return

Guardians of the Galaxy 2: still not as good as Avengers

Iron Man 6: Give Robert Downey Jr. even MORE money

    The Falcon: LOL, just kidding

Avengers 4: People still haven't realized that Wheodn just does the same kind of stories and characters over and over again

Doctor Strange isn't confirmed. Phase 3 movies? I'd say (in chronological order):

    1. Ant-Man (July 31, 2015) - Confirmed
    2. Thor 3 (May 6, 2016) - Unconfirmed
    3. Captain America 3 (July 8, 2016) - Unconfirmed
    4. Doctor Strange, Ms. Marvel or Black Panther (May 5, 2017) - Unconfirmed
    5. The Avengers 3 (May, 2018) - Unconfirmed

All the dates I listed above have been confirmed by Marvel except for the last one.

The good thing we should keep in mind is that 2 out of the 4 Phase 3 films are going to be new properties (one of them being Ant-Man of course).

That's the one I'm confused about... I'm still not sure what Marvel's plans with GotG are anyway - are there going to be sequels? Is Guardians supposed to open up a whole new universe so they can adapt other cosmic heroes (Nova, Quasar, etc)... I don't know :/

@extremis: Hulk's better off in team movies imo

@ultrastarkiller: It will never happy - at least not with Spiderman. Spiderman is too much of a cash cow to ever let him go. Spiderman by himself competes with the entire roster of characters Marvel/Disney can play with.

@tyrus: I like how you immediately assumed because he does't like Whedon he must love Snyder.

If Guardians is a hit then yes, there could be a sequel... I actually see them showing up in Avengers 3, considering Thanos and all (and the fact that Marvel could take in an extra few millions from their presence).

@tyrus: I think you should be levelling that at Goyer or Nolan, not Snyder. Snyder is just the director, and generally doesn't write. Whedon however writes the films he directs aswell. Ergo the comparison isn't really valid.

Also, I would say that when it comes to directors they generally have certain tropes that can be seen on ALL their work (John Woo using lots of slo-mo for example). Someone like Spielberg I would say is a rare exception who can create different types and styles of films and is why I personally regard him as one of, if not the, greatest directors and producers in cinematic history.

As for the OP I can't even tell what defines a Phase in Marvel's little plan and suspect it will change as it moves forward anyway as certain films underperform (and they always do) and other characters surprise them. For example Hulk was not originally intended to go beyond Avengers and Incredible Hulk, however I heard an insider type quote the other day that suggested they're looking back Hulk as getting a potential film again. So I guess we have to wait and see.

I'm hoping for a Captain America 3, a Daredevil re-boot, a Fantastic Four re-boot, and a and maybe a Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Depending on how good the first one is.

And, when was Dr. Strange confirmed? I knew about Ant-Man, but I thought Strange was just a rumor.

Doctor Strange is currently a rumour. Some sites reported that Marvel wants to make Doctor Strange the "next Iron Man"... I don't get what they mean by that, but if they're referring to popularity then I can only see Ant-Man or Black Panther replacing Iron Man.

Also, a few months ago some pages from the Doctor Strange script leaked and it pretty much revealed that the movie takes place before The Avengers - if that's the case, then Strange should definitely be apart of Phase 3 before it's too late.

    Well let's see:

Phase 1 had 3 movies (4 if we count Incred. Hulk) leading up to Avengers

Phase 2 has 4 movies leading into Avengers.

So I think its fair to say Phase 3, with all this universe building, will see at least 5 movies before Avengers 3. Possibly 6+. I mean lets think here:

    Ant-Man

    Thor 3 (presumably)

    Cap 3 (presumably)

    GotG 2 (presumably)

    Dr. Strange (presumably)

    Inhumans (maybe)

These I feel confident in, save for Inhumans. It's a big hunch, but if they don't do it phase 3, I really suspect it'll be phase 4 for sure. Without mutants, Marvel Studios needs to capitalize on the Inhumans to enrich their universe outside of the Avengers and the GotG. It'd be a smart move, because then after 3 phases you have 3 different teams for which to build upon success.

From what i have read is that Phase 3 gonna have 7 movies before Avengers 3 so going by current 2 movies per year rate , my guess is Avengers 3 gonna happen in 2019 & before that maybe following movies might happen-
    1. Ant Man (already confirmed for 2015)
    2. Dr Strange
    3. Black Panther
    4. Cap America 3
    5. Thor 3
    6. Hulk or Hawkeye solo movie

Question is; whose rights are going to be retaken first? Last I checked, the rights to the FF, Spiderman and X-Men verses are still out of Marvel's hands, along with Namor and Galactus. Am I missing anyone?

@rogueshadow: When the rights were given out; they were sort of stuck in between due to the fact they are Mutant Avengers. In theory, that could, with some work, affect Beast, and most likely would leave the MCU in a similar state, if perhaps more allowing, with Firestar and maybe Justice, can't recall if he's a mutant or not/

I would continue the MCU like this:

Guardians of the Galaxy - Guardians, Nova, and a third Infinity Stone.

Avengers: Age of Ultron - Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch are inhumans, but they don't know it. I would just hint at their origin in the movie. Ultron is JARVIS. Someone has to die, and it will be Hawkeye.

    Phase 3:

    Ant-Man - Bring the Wasp.

Doctor Strange - Origin story. Baron Mordo and the Ancient One. Make him develop his magic.

Thor 3 - Surtur and the fire demons of Muspelheim make Loki's reign harder than he'd expected. Sif becomes the Enchantress, also appears the Executioner and a fourth Infinity Stone.

Incredible Hulks - Betty Ross gets injured, Banner gives her a blood transfusion and she becomes She-Hulk. General Ross becomes the Red Hulk (as a villain). There would also be the Leader and AIM.

Inhumans - Inhumans origins with the Kree. Black Bolt, Crystal, Medusa, Maximus, etc. Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch discover their origins. A fifth Infinity Stone.

Avengers: Inifnity - There's the last Infinity Stone, Thanos comes, The Collector, The Avengers and the Guardians fight together, etc. Someone will die, either an Avenger or a Guardian. The Infinity story arc ends.

    Phase 4:

Captain America: The Red Skull - SHIELD, Captain, Winter Soldier and Black Widow battle The Red Skull. His time in Asgard is told by Flashbacks.

Black Panther - BP Origins. Klaw, Wakanda and everything. No Storm.

Thor: Ragnarok - The Ragnarok, Hela, Loki, Surtur, the Asgardians will die and be reborn.

Planet Hulk - SHIELD sends hulk to space. The events of the Planet Hulk story arc. She-Hulk gets angry at SHEILD.

Namor the Sub-Mariner - War over Atlantis, between Namor and Attuma.

Avengers: World War Hulk - Hulk comes back and he's REALLY ANGRY! The Avengers (Thor, Iron Man, Captain, Dr. Strange, Ant-Man, Wasp, Black Panther, Namor) try to stop him. She-Hulk is divided either to help Hulk or to stop him. There's a really epic Thor-Hulk battle. They capture Hulk and keep him in a special prison.

After, in Phase 5, I haven't decided yet, but there would be a Sentry movie with the Void.

Problem is that Namor is FF property and the World War Hulk storyline has been declared to not be movie material a hundred times.
