I absolutely love it. What do you think?
Martian Manhunter
Character » Martian Manhunter appears in 3662 issues.
Sole survivor of the Martian people, J'onn J'onzz was teleported to Earth decades ago by Dr. Saul Erdel. Since then, he has adopted Earth as his new home, playing many roles over his time with humanity: detective, secret agent, explorer, and even a founding member of the Justice League.
New 52 Origin.
It sound alright from what I've heard. Kinda sucks that most of the notable elements of the character's mythos were removed.
@avenging_x_bolt: I really didn't care for those elements from before Flashpoint and I loved the new Origin so it was a welcome change for me.
@sog7dc: yeah, I'm pretty sure you've told me. What is it exactly that you like better about the new origin?
I like that he was poised to become the leader of the Martians, I like that the Martians lived in perfect harmony and were so tightly knit that the leader had to understand loneliness, I like that he was already a badass warrior on mars, I loved the whitehouse backup. It was just tops for me lol
@sog7dc: lol, so basically you like the parts that were already part of his previous origins.
I guess I remember his pre52 origin incorrectly. I remembered him being a cop on mars, green and white being enemies, J'onn wasn't the leader and it wasn't psychological fire that was his weakness--real fire was, and Thoth didn't exist (I love that idea). I also like his new 52 persona being more serious and seemingly more powerful.
1. Yeah, he was a Manhunter which is basically a cop/warrior
2. He lead the Martians in the Bronze Age
3. Psychological fire became his weakness in the pre-52 after his relationship with Scorch and the whole Fernus ordeal
4. He was pretty serious in the pre 52.
5.Greens and whites were enemies but the green Martians were all still connected this not truly knowing loneliness until Malefic killed em off.
So yeah, most of those originated or existed in some form before Flashpoint. The new 52 seems to have modified the bronze age version of the character which is ok I guess. It just seems kind of sad and weird that DC just wiped out the few consistent elements/characters from his mythos rather then reinventing/updating them but it'd hardly be the worst thing they've done to the character. At least he's being portrayed reasonably well from what I hear.
Have you read the JLA backups? I think that they depicted him well. I haven't been able to read JLU.
@sog7dc: Nope I'm pretty broke ATM so I havnt been able to catch up with a lot of stuff
I would like to know, WHEN did his people on Mars died? Was that 10 years, 100 years or 100.000 years ago?
And how long lives he on earth now?
I always really liked Dr. Erdell so I am sad that he is gone though it really is kinda of a mix of the previous and the Bronze Age role they gave him. I just really love the Silver Age version. There is just something so cool and weird and retro to the idea I just like. Plus, it was the way his creators envisioned him.
