Who should write?
Who should draw?
Should the story take place mainly on earth or mainly in space?
Character » Martian Manhunter appears in 3662 issues.
I don't remember who wrote the MM backstories in JLA but definitely not him because he created a horrible new origin for him. Who ever drew that though, I'd be okay with it.
The story should start off on Earth since that's where he's stationed. Maybe have an arc or two every now and then in space but mainly on Earth.

Really? It was an atrocity, in my opinion.
@arturocalakayvee: well im a new reader so i wasnt attached to any previous origin for him
@sog7dc: Ah, alright. Then respect to you, my fellow user!
@arturocalakayvee: I do however wish the incredible artist named Scott Clark was with us. Its a shame he didn't draw more books
I would love to see a Martian Manhunter solo title. I thought the team that wrote & drew New Guardians did a really good job with the sci-fi feel, so that's one group that comes to mind for a character like MMH. Although, the quality of a hero's story is often depended on the quality of the villain. J'onn doesn't exactly have a stellar rogues gallery aside from his brother. I suppose New 52 made Despero his arch-nemesis so that could be worked in there, too. It would be pretty cool to have some new, unique characters made just to be part of MMH's rogues gallery. That way writers won't have to borrow/steal villains from other books.
If any of you are interested, the 90s Martian Manhunter series is getting reprinted into TPB. It was written by John Ostrander, and while never particularly popular, was critically well-received. I'm looking forward to it, simply because I'm a big pre-52 J'onn fan.
Writers: DnA
Art: Frencesco Francavilla
Setting: Always in space! We get to see J'onn on earth interacting with the regular DCU all the time, that's what the JLA is for. His solo should be more self contained with his own characters, like how Justice League Batman is interacting with the DCU at large but his solo is Gotham, same with Aquaman and Atlantis, JJ should be in space hunting down guys he deems as threats, ya know, like actually being a manhunter.
Writer: Scott Snyder
Artist: Ivan Reis
@jonny_anonymous: can you link me to the artists page? I can't find it for some reason.
@jonny_anonymous: thanks a bunch, I like it.
@avenging_x_bolt: really like to see him do more cosmic stuff
@jonny_anonymous: I agree, as much as I like MMH's connections and clout on the dcu, I would love to see him live up to his name. The combination of cosmic epics and earthbound super mysteries would be amazing and definitely carve that unique place in the DCU that he's always deserved (not to mention that A-list status he also deserves).
I like the idea of Morrison or Ostrander returning if Scott Clark (rip) were still alive, of pick him but Ivan Reis or Doug Mahnke would be great too.Mike Deodato would be perfect as well. As for direction, seeing J'onn in space or continuing his establishment as the Secret Architect of the DCU would be great. Or have him travel the world solving the great mysteries of history. Oh and definitely develop a good supporting cast and rogues gallery for him, that's essential,
@arturocalakayvee: what was atrocious about it, I havnt read it.

I just really didn't like his new origin. Literally nothing is the same. If you don't care for spoilers: There was no Martian Civil War between the Greens and Whites, in fact they lived together in "peace and harmony." MM was being groomed to be the next leader of the Martians so during his rite of passage he had to live alone and travel the Universe to understand what being alone really meant. Then when he arrived back on Mars he saw that his entire planet was psychically slaughtered, which was okay with him because he already knows what being alone means. So he followed the psychic trail back to earth to find the killer, who was some sickly alien hiding in the arctic, and so John killed him and decided to stay on Earth.
To console anyone disappointed with New 52 MM, Jeff Lemire's recent interview with CBR has promised encouraging things for Martian Manhunter. Lemire says that he'll be more of a father figure/role model to the team, he'll be the link to the original Justice League in the team, he'll become obsessed with some kind of Canadian doughnuts rather than oreos (it's still a food quirk) and he'll be written as the most powerful being on the team if not in the DCU. That's pretty much what I want from J'onn in the New 52.
@lvenger: that honestly gets me right in the heart. I'm smiling like an idiot right now.
@dondave: I aim to please my friend ;)
@avenging_x_bolt I figured you'd like what Lemire had to say about MM. Making him the heart and soul of the team is in keeping with what MM is supposed to represent on a team. And for Lemire to get that is very hopeful indeed for MM in the future of the New 52.
I'm honestly a little surprised this hasn't happened yet. Larfleeze got his own book but Martian Manhunter hasn't? I disagree with that one.

Was it any good? While I would love to read some Pre-52 J'ohn I have never heard anyone sing praise for a Martian Manhunter solo, often as an explanation why we didn't get one in New 52 before now.
@titanbreaker: Ostrander MMH is really good. And very underrated !
