The Martian Manhunter continues his fever-induced haunting at the hands of H'ronmeer. He lands at a martian terrarium in a Chicago museum, which the spirit of H'ronmeer convinces is his home world. A glimpse of a familiar martian face breaks the fever, and J'onn collects his thoughts enough to confront H'ronmeer. However, the Martian apparition is too strong, and the realization that the apparition is indeed H'ronmeer sends J'onn running again.

Meanwhile, Batman, Blue Beetle, and the rest of the Justice League International continue to track J'onn as he flies across the globe, just barely catching up with him. J'onn lands in Italy, where the fever grips him again. J'onn faces H'ronmeer again, realizing his apparition is the Martian God of Death and Fire. In Italy, H'ronmeer is confronted by the Justice league, but managed to defeat all of them with one exception. Only Mister Miracle remains. However, instead of fighting, Mister Miracle surrenders J'onn to H'ronmeer.

J'onn flees again, following his instincts. Those feelings land him to the one place he least expects: to the waiting arms of Dr. Erdel, a scientist long thought dead.
