With ABC's S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series starting production, there are still a lot of questions comic fans have. The characters previously announced have all been new characters. While Clark Gregg will somehow reprise his Agent Coulson role, it didn't seem likely we'd see other familiar S.H.I.E.L.D. agents from The Avengers movie. The chances of seeing Sam Jackson as Nick Fury or Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill seemed like long shots. At least until now (for one of them).

TV Line reports that Cobie Smulders is in talks to reprise her role.

The main question is could Smulders appear on the ABC show while having commits to CBS' How I Met Your Mother (which she has recently signed on for a 9th season)?

In a recent interview, Smulders mentioned her commitments to HIMYM won't affect the possibility of appearing on S.H.I.E.L.D. in some form. Smulders also mentioned she hasn't seen a full script to the Captain America sequel as there is high security over it.

We'll have to wait for more information but hopefully it will work out for at least some cameos. Having Maria Hill in the S.H.I.E.L.D. series will only help to further strengthen the continuity between the show and the Cinematic Universe.

Frankly, I assumed the whole reason Marvel got a TV actress to play Maria Hill was so that they would be able to lock her down as a core part of the SHIELD series. That is clearly not the case, and it seems like a big drop of the ball. That being said, there is no reason Smulders can't have a recurring role, despite involvement with CBS. You can't star on two shows at once, but plenty of actors juggle more than one show. As long as How I Met Your Mother and SHIELD are both produced out of the same city, there shouldn't be a problem.

Because there is just so many other better things to watch on network TV, like Parenthood and 2 Broke Girls, that we would just dismiss a TV show based in the Marvel film universe... right?

I've never watched Parenthood. I've seen a few episodes of 2 Broke Girls, not really my thing but if I was sick and delirious I might leave it on the tv.

I don't really watch that many tv shows as they premier on tv. I'll watch through Hulu or Netflix and shows on AMC, HBO, Cinemax etc. But to answer your question yeah there are a lot of good shows on. 2 Broke Girls isn't one of them, but I haven't seen Parenthood so I can't really judge.

How I Met Your Mother is coming to an end. Most likely she would finish up her work there and be ready to do the pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D. Hopefully they can develop the character more with this show. Her presence was a bit lacking in Avengers.

This would obviously have to take place before the Avengers. Im stoked. Shes hot and the more i hear about the show, the more I want to see it. Coulson all the way, baby!

i love Cobie Smulders but I dont think she was a good choice for Maria Hill. I think this show is gonna be a big build up to be a big let down...just like the avengers

It doesn't surprise me because S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't competing for the same eyeballs HIMYM is. 
 
I'm surprised Sam Jackson's name hasn't been bandied about. AFAIK, He signed a fairly lucrative deal with Marvel to appear as 'Nick Fury'. I would speculate that the deal includes an occasional TV appearance.

Are you kidding me a 9th season of HIMYM that's just stupid that show jumped the shark two seasons ago. I rather see Cobie as a regular on S.H.I.E.L.D. than not watch her on "How I told I really long story that really doesn't have anything to do with HIMYM."

@soulreaper31337:I only mentioned that my source was Wikipedia because I realize that it is not always 100% correct on everything and I didn't want to give the impression that I knew for certain filming had begun. But generally Wikipedia is a very solid/reliable source of information, I couldn't base world politics on it, or use it as a source for a college paper, but for average every day information you can do a lot worse. By that reasoning, I guess going onto the comicvine pages here to find information on unfamiliar characters is also a bad idea?

@nappystr8: For comic and other Nerd and/or Geek information i would trust this site (to an extent), but anything outisde of the comic book, cartoon, or superhero category i wouldnt trust the site at all. Sites have their focus that you can generally trust them to be accurate about; this one is the nerd category and wikipedia is good for general knowledge after the fact it is not here say or gossip that is added by an imaginative fan. (I had to listen to an professor go on for a whole 3 lecture monday about it so its why wikipedia hate is still fresh in my mind, it was the content of the most boring 3 hours of my life so far in my 22 years of living.)

@soulreaper31337: I've heard those same lecture's, believe me. So I know where you're coming from. But Wikipedia has a large group of varied and passionate editors, who don't let blatant lies last long before being corrected. In this case, everything I've seen on the subject confirms wiki's info. But of course, Wikipedia isn't the only unreliable source on the internet so you never know for sure.
