Every time I see those towers collapse I think of Magneto. Don't know why. It's just a reaction me being a comic reader, and the fact that normal human can only imagine how or what could have stopped it. I think Magneto could have prevented the towers from collapsing, allowing everyone to escape the towers. He was just as taken by surprise by the event, as was shown by his reaction to it in the comics.

Still doesn't compare to what both Doom and Magneto have done in the MU.

Anyways I was answering where he was at the time in question, I didn't write the issue of Spider-Man as it were.

Most characters including Magneto could only help out to an extent. Characters like Thor, Sentry, Ironman, and more could have stopped the plane but only a few could stop the actual destruction of the towers. Magneto could have and characters with vast telekinetic powers could actually stop the destruction of the towers after te planes hit.

I don't think Magneto could've held the buildings up because there's so much more than metal involved, and holding up one building (let alone 2) would probably take a hell of a lot of concentration. Dude's head probably would've exploded from that kind of strain. He, and many many others could've done something about the planes. 

@Gambit1024: Dr.Doom wept, same panel as Magneto.

I'd say Invisible Woman would do a heck of a better job than Magneto.
