Magneto is one of the most infamous and powerful mutants, possessing mastery over magnetism. He has played many roles in his long life: prisoner, survivor, terrorist, savior, conqueror, teacher, villain, and anti-hero. Magneto is the X-Men's oldest foe, and one of their greatest allies.

Comparason with movie

As you all may recall, in the first X-Men film the central plot was Magneto attempting to capture Rogue, for the purpose of making her operate his machine instead of him, that way he could live.
 
What do you guys think, would the Magneto from the comics do the same? Or would he operate the machine himself for the sake of mutantkind?

He would get someone else to do it, but comic Magneto probably wouldn't build a machine that would potentially kill him in the first place

During his more megalomaniacle phases it isn't improbable for him because at the same time he's a bit gone mentally at those times. However, it would more than likely be that comic would create the machine minus the threat of death to himself, not that he'd need to do it anyway.
