Magneto is one of the most infamous and powerful mutants, possessing mastery over magnetism. He has played many roles in his long life: prisoner, survivor, terrorist, savior, conqueror, teacher, villain, and anti-hero. Magneto is the X-Men's oldest foe, and one of their greatest allies.

I didn't get the issue but I saw the upload on Youtube. The only reason he lost was because he got distracted by his own thoughts regarding the Phoenix Force. There really wasn't anything stopping him from creating a magnetic field within Tony Stark's body strong enough to damage his organs due to the diamagnetic property of water. Again, substandard writing at best.
