    Review: Magneto #1 7

Magneto wasn't always the villain. Before the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, Magneto was a mutant trying to do good in New York City.  The Good I didn't think I'd like this because Howard Chaykin was doing the art. I've never been a big fan. However, I feel that Chaykin's writing on this book was pretty darn good. He really captured a younger, happier Magneto that doesn't want to wreak vengeance upon the world. Even though the Magneto of now and the Magneto of then have relatively two different...

    "First X-Man"... really? 3

What struck me to pick this up was Howard Chaykin.  Unlike most people it would be Magneto, I actually like Chaykin a lot.  His writing is solid, because he understands the strengths of the medium by being able to do double duty.  His art is what is in question, I like any artist who can draw better then me, so even Chaykin's current way to draw faces I enjoy more then my stick people.  One thing I don't think can be argued is that Chaykin does put effort in the background of his comics.  The de...

If Only There Were More... 4

Magneto's one of those cases where a "villain" should really have an on-going series.  He has a rich history, an extremely complex moral compass, and a unique personality that could make him an interesting character to follow around from month to month.  Unfortunately, such a thing we many never see, but this one-shot written and drawn by Howard Chaykin has potential.  Is it squandered, or does the "MASTER OF MAGNET" (reference...) get a good self-contained story here?  Ambitious Youth This is a...

This is kind of a lame story. As a beginning issue of a mini-series, it would be fine but it simply does not work as a 1-shot. I am curious about more of his adventures as a super-hero, but nothing more will be done on that for now. Pros Magneto as a super hero is an interesting idea, and it's cool to see him as a good guy.ConsThe art is really not what it needs to be: Magneto doesn't look like Magneto but just some big white-haired guy, and Cassandra looks like a guy. The story is unexciting as...

    Magnets..how do they work? 0

I gotta tell you...this one is a true crap turd of a comic book. First of all, it does not contribute anything to the story of Magneto. I kind of get the feeling it got made because of the coming period piece movie and Chaykin doing a nostalgia take on Magneto coming to New York in...I dont know...fifties/sixties...seemed like a semi good idea.  Well, it was not.  I mean as a kinda origin or goming of age story, it is a huge leap from Grek Pak`s Magneto Testament´s child living in ghetto during ...

Hmm...seriously? I started reading this. Suddenly, I lost an interest in this because of art. I decided to ingore the art. Then I decided to look at how writing goes with the build-in story. No, it is not an excellent story in this issue. The Good: At least the name of MAgento on the cover is excellent! The Bad: from the inside of the comic, what kind of that are art and writing retard?Verdict: Do not buy this for real. ...
